Also yes sound is horrendous. Not just the weapon sounds but also directional audio of gunfire.
No they did not remove them; proof:
https://youtu.be/R6RrcLkiAnI?t=82
at around 1:24 / 1:25 you can clearly see a muzzle flash.
Now lets take another example of a gun IRL:
https://youtu.be/0Kig2kaHZEg?t=77
and:
https://youtu.be/8DPQbV2XtCc?t=328
So i drop a question: am i blind or where are those "muzzle flashes"? As can be researched on forums etc.: a muzzle flash, is a big nono. Whether its blinding you (in night time combat) or the enemy being able to spot you. Thats a reason why tracer bullets are reduced to a minimum (since they give away your position as well).
Adressing sound: yes, thats a bit awkward ...
Yes now listen to that sound and look at that smoke its a dead give away .
Ok you call this poor, so better hold my beer.

at 1:43 wheres the muzzle flash? You can see the thrust of the air coming out of the gun, yet you cant see a light (and its colored footage).
https://youtu.be/8vjXqRcWd34?t=142
(at around 2:24 if its not working properly) Wheres the muzzle flash? Again you can see the thrust not an actual light - at least you can say the videos quality is not as high as the other ones.

(at around 2:30) Muzzle flash? Yes you can see muzzle flashes from bigger guns (as expected) ...

at around 1:14 - again: wheres the muzzle flash? ...
same video at around 1:26 and 1:28 - you have to watch the video carefully: wheres our muzzle flash? :)
So lets assume those are not fake videos (and im quite sure they arent) and i just invested like 15-20 minutes of my life doing an EASY(!!!) research on WW2 firefights ...
I could do the same on modern combat, but since todays weapons also feature tools to reduce / prevent any kind of muzzle flash - especially because of night-time combat - its just some waste of time ...
So lets make it easier: give us some combat footage of small arms (!!) causing muzzle flash and we could discuss it on a more detailed lvl. As pestillence already mentioned: many weapons dont have any kind of muzzle flash, because of gun length, size of the round used, etc. etc.. All this can be researched by investing less than 1 hour on the internet. Even mythbusters made a video and they couldnt see the muzzle flash on a distance less than 50 meters ... even after using a round DESIGNED to cause a big muzzle flash they had difficulties to spot it.
So please, dont say that my argumentation - based on actual footage (past + present) - is bad, while you dont even deliver anything. You told us to watch some actual firefights - and as proven again - you dont see muzzle flashes of small fire arms. Adding the fact that the opposite of what you are claiming as "realistic" is backed up by several types of sources (combat footage, forums / discussions, wiki, shooting range footage) does not tell me in any way, this argumentation would not be solid. Ofc its not solid from a scientific perspective, but i wont take it to that level...
So back to HLL: its meant to be realistic (to a certain degree, ofc its not a perfect simulation). Therefore adding tracers, muzzle flashes, etc. in an artificial way is not the way to go. Fix audio system and stuff and its fine. We are not fighting in a hollywood movie...
So lets have some directional awareness . Its simple .
Go play post scriptum and your know what im talking about .
I Agree . The game looks amazing looks like the real thing back in the days .
To be honest its really let down by poor sound effects and lack of situation awareness .
2nd of all if you pay attention there is smoke effects whenever a gun is fired.
Nothing weird going on here people are asking for Combat awareness .
No this is Hell let Loose .
