Kar98k is fine but...
I like the idea of historical accuracy, where german soldiers equipped with bolt action rifles and US soldiers have Semi autos. But i have complaints about the usage of this rifle.

1- The bolt feels very clunky, heavy and dry.
Bolting of this rifle feels like you are bolting an anti material rifle. Bolt feels way too heavy. Bolt also feels like unmaintained and unlubricated. Soldiers took a great care of their rifles and rifle bolts.

2- Historical accuracy dilemma
I told you that i like the idea of Historical Accuracy but when you are holding a kar98k, fighting a CQB area, and having a 20 FPS is your worst definition of Historical Accuracy. With average graphics card, you should get at least 40 to 50 average FPS. But Kar98k is a worst choice for unoptimized areas. At least an American player miss a few shots then hit another with low FPS. German player doesn't have this opportunity.

3- Map - Loadout harmony
Germany started the replace kar98k's with STG44's towards 1945. Like in Hill 400 which the battle dates late 44 there should be more STG's for german players (f.e SL, Assault).

4- Bolting bug
I don't know if you had any but there is a bolting bug in all bolt action rifles(springfield has it too). Your character supposed the load the ammo but suddenly stops and cancels the action. This happens to me almost every time while i try to load the bullets. I was standing still and doing nothing in the process

I'm also fine with the Kar and the game being bolt action Vs semi autos.

The way to play around it as the bolt action is you maintain distance and pick off players while your MG suppresses them and your semi auto and full auto players close the distance.

The trouble is the Kar has a 1 hit kill range of 125m - same as the Gewehr garand and carbine which means it much hard to be effective while maintaining your distance.

I often find myself having to close the distance because otherwise I won't kill anyone with my shots which is not what I want to do as on most maps the next piece of cover/concealment you would move too would put you close enough that you would easily be in danger.

And like you say they need to remove the like 1-1.5 second delay between firing and starting the cycle animation it's really annoying.

Ever since update 7 the bolting on the K98 has gotten slower and like you said clunky.

The fps dilemma sucks and something we just have to deal with in the games current state.

The one hit kill range is so stupid in HLL, idk why they decided you can’t one hit kill someone past 100-125 meters using a grand or Kar98. It’s very arcadey and something that a “realistic” game, as HLL is advertised, shouldn’t have. My K98 should at least be one shotting to the torso to at least 500 meters.

I hope I can equip a bayonet to my K98 in the future so I’m close quarters it can give me a better chance.

And yea, with bolting the K98, once you fire your character kinda site there for a second then decided to bolt, he doesn’t immediately do it once the rounds been fired.

I’d also like some changes to the Grand, such as much more recoil because you can whip off all 8 rounds with ease and maintain basically perfect accuracy. Increase its reload time, rn a lot of guns are reloading like its COD, and finally make the sights smaller and more closer to their real life size; not the big wide open sites given to people right now.

We'll keep a close eye on balance and if we feel quality of life adjustments need to be made we can take action.

In regards to the K98 though, we do have bullet penetration coming in Update 8. This will enhance the effectiveness of a variety of weapons, particularly on the German side.

As we're in Early Access and continually adding new features and mechanics, sometimes it takes a couple of content drops in certain areas to build the full picture!

It's gonna need a lot more than penetration to bring me back to the game honestly. I had fun for the time I played it (I bought it after a free weekend and stopped playing around level 80-ish) but there are big balance problems in the game as it stands. It's apparent to everyone that the US is far more powerful than Germany in many aspects. I hope these problems are mitigated soon, because I'd like to continue playing. The game is shaping up really nicely.

Hello again :).

Are your aware of reloading of bolt action rifles problem?

Since 3 Updates Kar98 and Springfield cancelling reload. It's happening to other people either.

Another problem is hit registration for few weapons including Kar98.

Personally for me it's also screen sway that you presented in Update 7 which make manual bolting extremally unpleasant.

Would be nice to see smoother screen sway combined with a weapon sway typical for each weapon.

The consensus is that the K98 is broken in at least 10 ways, and needs to be fixed:

1.) Correct accuracy to be 50% of all shots within 3cm at 100m. 4.5 MOA.
2.) Correct the zero to be 200m.
3.) Correct the horrendous bullet drop.
4.) Correct the misaligned sights.
5.) Correct the speed of rechambering.
6.) Add a momentum system to player movement.
7.) Correct the projectile velocity to ~800m/s.
8.) Improve frames.
9.) Bayonet
10.) Correct the malfunctional damage after 125m
11.) Time rechambering does not consume stabilization time.
12.) Correct hit reg
13.) Correct reload bug

there are a few dissenters, but i am 90% sure that they are Rtards that think 100m is a long distance shot. The people wanting to replace all k98s with g43s are COD fools. You can play games like Rising storm 2 and use a 91/30 vs m16s and do fine, disadvantaged, but fine. The contrast of how bolt actions function in RO2 vs HLL really drives home how malfunctional HLL's k98 is.

+1 some of the points related to general optimization but of course needed.

please have the Kar98 zeroed properly too, as it is now you need to aim so much higher than you can actually see your target at 100+m

What do you mean it "feels" dry and unlubricated??! WTF? You shoot, and a bolt animation plays. How does that possibly "feel" anything? I get the complaints that it is maybe too slow. But saying it feels dry and unlubricated is such a weird comment lol.

Would be nice to practice in a map and have fake soldiers standing, so you can really try out the guns for longer distances.

The issue is that in real life it doesn't matter much if you have k98 or M1. The issue is the MG.

Because in real life the MG is much more important. And in the game, the MG is not a big deal.

So what really needs to change is that MG should have more features and thus becoming more important. Eg: you could prone down your head, you could stick it at more places, you could have more zoom and it should be easier to stick it

I REALLY don't want the inaccuracy (if I want to play a bullet lottery I'll play CS:GO - miss me with that random luck BS) but I agree with the other points. The Kar98k might be the most broken weapon I've ever seen in any FPS game.
