The manual is not only realistic but fun to use.
It kinda is in tight spots with the recon vehicles. Couldn't imagine how many Tiger's and Jumbo's would be getting stuck if they were auto.
They've fixed a lot of the fences and environmental stuff that stops tanks, but there is still a lot to be done when it comes to collision with Tank's.
If you learn the maps as a driver, you eventually know where to avoid driving, what kind of things will get you stuck or stop you and the fastest routes and sweet spots.
Tanks still need TLC yet check the roadmap and or search the threads for more info about tanks in general.. as for transmission.. i reckon manual is still the way to go and i find it a lot more fun as well.. gives you something to do and is more challenging, but hey that's just my 2c.
This is literally the one thing stopping me from buying the game right now.
Tried tanking in PS and imo that's boring and way to easy, feels like every other shooter. Same for the fast swinging turrets etc.
I spend most of my time in armor in Squad, PS, and HLL. I wish PS had a gear shifting system or a speed hold function.
Autos are going to be smoother than manual. But the manual feature in HLL allows for a TC to tell the driver to set a gear and move up slowly. In PS moving up slowly is on/off the forward key. Squad you have a speed hold function which helps with that.
In the future I can see the manual being useful if they add in the Sherman Stabilization. As it works at low speed.
There is also the realism factor too.
