"When it comes to cosmetics we'll be releasing them at varying levels - some will be immediate / early and others will take a bit of gameplay to unlock.
With certain customisation items we want players that see them to be like "Woah, ok, this person's an experienced player in this role"."
This is from Jonno in another post. Certain unlocks are to show that players are experienced in that role. It's supposed to mean something to unlock them. Not just buy them like skins in most games.
Don't look at it like a grind. Just play the game. You'll unlock things eventually.
Great advice...I often forget to equip new unlocks, rarely even check the barracks these days.
Except for today...today is cap day fur alles!
Agreed, if your focus is on cosmetics you might as well stop playing. Play the game cause it's fun and be pleasantly surprised when you do unlock something and appreciative for the fact they give you the option without having to pay.
I do find it extremely puzzling when ppl say "If I can't have ALL of the unlocks without putting in any effort, Ima stop playing"...that's just lame, this isn't a dressup game, the cozies are just a cherry on top...I sure as hell ain't eating an ice cream sundae just for the cherry!
More importantly, the whole cosmetic system is also a test...a dry run of what's to come. The devs have mentioned numerous times that their end goal is to have something for pretty much every level to fill in the gaps that are admittedly, quite large at present.
When this goes gold, there'll be plenty of goodies to go around.
The only real purpose the unlocks have is to delineate between those that have played for a while vs those that just picked it up, something that is also a good feature.
If you are enjoying playing the actual game, what's the big deal if you have to put in some work to get a completely superficial, painted helmet or coat? Other than to distinguish yourself as being more experienced...which, while being a cool feature, has no real impact on the game and how it plays.
Also...read what I just posted, and what Jonno said...soon you'll have a lot of things to unlock (ideally one per level).
Id you reach level 3 support, it'll be lvl 3 for the Germs and lvl 3 for the US
+1
Great game, no prob droppin 5/10 bucks for the cosmetics and give further support to the cause. Good idea for a fund raiser. I get the point of looking like a Vet, but its all bout the $.
