I do like the fact that the rate of fire is becoming more punctuated with the sound, the MG42 could sound slightly "sharper", yet still be carefully balanced to not be harsh on the ears (headphone users). The terror of being on the receiving end of the MG42 should stem from extremely clear sounding (high rpm) amount of bullets whizzing by.
I'd rather they avoid the bass-heavy and indistinct droning sound that alot of other games go for with MGs.
People need to realize that the devs' objectives with guns sounds (as stated on the devblog) is that the sounds need to be consistent and identifiable -that was one of the primary area of improvement feedback from the closed play session. Not everything should be "like ___ game or ___movie" and bassy, it becomes sound clutter at that point.
Let's say then, for argument's sake, Chum, that the MG42 sound needs a little more depth to it, in order to give it more of a solid sound. I like the way the sound of it reverberates through the forest too.
The over-all sound is nowhere near as bad as some folk are making out.
@Kouru - Thanks for the video.
We appreciate the feedback we've been seeing in regards to the WIP updates we shared recently.
I just want to let you all know we're reading through all the feedback and it's being looked into :)
A possible solution could the sound engineer working on the weapon sounds record the firing of the MG42 on the range in a loop and then use it as the MG42 in-game sound. All machine guns that are belt fed are the main stay of a firearms team /squad used to suppress the enemy whilst the rest of the squad flank and man-oeuvre. The crack and thump of rounds flying overhead should sound like a nest of angry hornets has just been released.

Overall ,Red Orchestra 2 did an amazing job on realistic weapon sounds including the one of the MG 42.
The barrel overheating and change system should actually be adopted to Hell Let loose as well.
This is a must.
M42 had only one weakness (aside of needing a shed full of ammo), and that is giving allies 5-6 seconds to advance while barrel was being swapped.
Ah, MG role in RO 2, fond memories of all the delusional conscripts whining about mgs not killing enough, all while breezing trough map due to enemy being pinned and disoriented by the same machineguns for their easy picking...
