Also I'd like to have the player icons removed completely and replaced with the system Squad has: when you aim at friendly it shows player's name. Now the player icons are distracting and in some situations blocking the view.
I want to know to why it keeps popping back up. I said it before and i will say it again. If i press "T" to hide the hud i want it to stay hidden. The map gives all the info i need when i want to know whats happening.
"Toggle Hud off" is somthing we rly need for a long time, and still no answer from devs.
Ah i see, thought the devs deleted it cause they got tired of us whining about it 😂.
No but seriously, i understand its not a priority for them because there are a lot of things that need attention as well but its ruining the immersion and that is what this game is all about.
I wish i understood how the UE4 engine works and how you could edit things. I would totally strip out the hud and player icons for my own game atleast.
No, no. The last thread was mine, but I was wrong about how the HUD worked. So I wrote a new thread and deleted the old one to be more exact. The issue of clutter is a solid on, but my understanding of why the HUD popped up was incorrect. . .
Dead Meat, you should try playing with the nameplate view distance and use icons turned down to zero. I do NOT recommend this for players with less than 100 hours of gameplay, but if you think you're up for the challenge, give it a shot. I turned mine down three weeks ago for the making of my first HLL tutorial, and I haven't looked back.
And don't worry about accidentally killing teammates. You won't if you 1) check your map often, 2) ensure you're always on the front line with friendlies clear of your field of view, 3) remind yourself on occasion which team you're on (sounds silly, but I forget occasionally), and 4) look down your sites to identify targets first, shoot second. . .
It's slow and difficult to start. I ran around for almost three games, and shot my weapon only five times total. But you get better at it fast. And the higher level of attention required to play with the nameplates turned to zero will make you a better player.
With my nameplates turned to 500, use icons at 10 percent, I killed at least two teammates a game -- not by shooting but with nades. With my nameplates off, I don't kill any friendlies, not even with nades. You're just so much more conscious. But the number of enemies I kill went through the roof. No nameplates really improves your game.
But, again, NOT recommended for players under 100 hours. Other aspects of the game have to be second nature before making the switch.
I wonder if the HUD pops up now when someone drops an OP, builds a garrison, or constructs a resource node as well. I don't know for sure. I'll need to test this, but my bet is yes!
Who's Jonno?
In just the short few months I've been a forum participant, I've seen more talk and less proof about what the devs are aware of and doing than can reasonably be corroborated. I'll take your word for it, of course, and I'm not trying to be a tool. I'm just curious if you or Jonno have a link to the thread in which the devs made the note?
I only ask because the fix just happened. The dev note should be readily available. Moreover, have you noticed that the game seems to be trending towards cluttered? It never seems to retreat from that. It only marches head-long into the breech of oblivion.
I say that only because I have been puzzling over the consistent, steady decline in the player base. And after seeing Dead Meat's Kickstarter video, I am . . . in a word, startled:

I guess we'll just have to see what happens. My guess is another hot fix like what we got with the new icons, however. Ugh!
I'll try to keep the faith. . .
I know they are trying to make a good game before it gets released so it will attract alot of new players but what about the players that are playing right now?, some of these issue are gamebreaking and players have lost interest in the game because of that.
Wouldnt it be a better idea to fix the things that are wrong in this stage of the game to keep the players happy that are already playing?. i mean the end product is still going to be the same only with less unhappy players in the EA stage of the game.
Awe, man! That's too bad.
I'm as let down about these things as anyone. The icon change was especially punishing and really threw my for a loop. But I trust the devs are working on it all, and might even roll some of these changes back. After all, some elements ARE experimental. I know I've seen the name Castor in-game, and if that's you, you've always been a solid, hard-charging player. I hope you'll reconsider and come back to us. I'm sure things are going to turn around soon.
