Just add the Camo- uniforms and DONT have the " SS " on them.
Everybody happy.
The thing is, the camo patterns were specifically designed for the Waffen SS by Johan Georg Otto Schick. So the patterns are inherently going to tie to the SS if worn in this game. The SS were actually mocked for the patterns at first, until everyone started to copy it.
Not trying to drum up sympathy or boast about the SS either, I'm just saying, anyone with a bit of knowledge of WW2 is going to immediately think "SS" if they add camouflaged patterns that resemble the smocks the Waffen SS wore.
The Splittertarnmuster and the Erbsentarn patterns definitely scream SS.
10 or 15 years ago, noone cared. It was a video game. It was historical. Nowadays, in today's outrage culture, it's tough being a video game developer and having to decide whether or not to add this kind of stuff, because it may hurt someone's feelings. Look at what Mordhau is going through.
And that is a EA game.
They are facing a lot of flack for a few things. Awhile back it was not being able to play a female character or change your character's skin color to anything but white. Now it's about adding chat filters. Mordhau has been through the grinder these past few years over subjects like this.
Like I said, that was what, 10-20 years ago? Yeah, noone cared. There wasn't this huge outrage culture over stuff like this.
Call of Duty WW2 did NOT have SS units whatsoever. Only in the campaign. The units you could choose from like "Valkyrie" in the resistance update weren't even close to historically accurate. They had German units with a mix match of all kinds of weird outfits that made no sense. Oh, and you could be a black female German.
BFV was the same thing pretty much.
Day of Infamy was forced to change the SS divisions to "Panzer Divisions" and censored many of the patches. But there was SS camouflage used for sure.
Most developers are going to stay away from the SS stuff, just saying.
Everthing!
History is history.
However, if they put SS-Runes on them, it could be tricky. Some lawyers and people with some knowledge argue, that games could be considered as culture products and then you could add them even in Germany.
Some do not see it this way.
So adding SS-Runes onto SS-Uniforms could be a touch too much and would be playing Roulette.
But imho, they don't really add that much, afterall, we're playing a game to shoot people, not to remake accurate to detail SS Uniforms.
So imho just add the SS-Uniforms without the SS-Runes and no one bats an eye.
