MG42/M1919 tracer ammunition !! Why
Why the hell do machine gunners have tracer ammunition that makes them a virtual target and thus useless? I think the HLL veteran can confirm this, as soon as you shoot with the machine gun you have sealed your fate and a short time later you are already dead.

Thats the prime reason, if they won't have tracers, the MG's would be too op.

and the sniper has no disadvantage? I think the muzzle fire and the shot sound should be enough to locate it

You need to learn to use it well. Yes, opening up with an MG will make you a big target. Use it wisely. Observe, then shoot.

Of course, you can also successfully change or customize your style of play. I think that could be the other side as well, you just have to flank and act tactically.

So basically use the MG like a sniper rifle and not a high volume rof gun meant to keep the enemies heads down, got it.

Ever since the WW2 movie Fury everyone has a hardon for green tracer fire.:steamfacepalm:

Need to pick your spots where you set up the mg more carefully once you start realizing that your tracers are giving you away. Use the MG differently depending on the situation. Short bursts in situations where you know theres a lot of enemy potentially looking in your direction. If youre feeling safe you could go for the longer bursts. Personally I dont use long bursts in any situation as thats a quick way to drain ammo. Even short bursts are enough to keep your enemy under the suppression effects and for a longer time than if you just held the trigger down.

Exactly, short bursts then eventually change position, then never position yourself to the whole enemy frontline, try to partially cover yourself from one side, in case you know theres a sniper somewhere. Last but not least, change position immediately when bullets fly your way and you cant see the source.
The only thing that could be improved is the handling of the bipod (legs) of MG. Too often its a fiddling thing to find a position where the MG is useful, either because the MG points in some crazy directions or your sunk in the Ground for example. As well i think the Gras should be a bit transparent in front of you (about 2m) as in RL you have two eyes and a thin obstacle in front of you is never blocking your view 100%.... As well a far point of focus normally makes thin things near your eyes blurry... In some maps the MG is close to usless because of the gras... IMO

For the tracers. Without them the MG would be to OP. On the other hand right now they are useless for what they actually meant to be, tracing... lol

Right now the devs do consider snipers to be overpowered because of the nature of the gunplay at the moment. They're hoping that with the gunplay reworks that are coming in the next patch or two that it will be harder for snipers to get long range kills

Why not add tracers to the sniper rifle too.
;)

The tracers arent always negative. You can use them to direct your teams fire. If youre on a team with a MG, recognize the color differences. Red is American, green is German. If you see a MG shooting in a direction theres a chance there are enemies over there. MG can use this to their advantage to "point" at targets or at least the direction they are approaching from.

I like to set up on one of the tank traps as American on Omaha, try it..its actually pretty good. Right off the start of the round just start scanning the cliffs. Help your tanks spot the enemy positions. Even if you arent getting the kills you are directing attention towards the enemies you are spotting.

MGs are more for covering fire or suppression so that squads can move. Using it like this will give you and your squad better results. Most MG players I see set up as far away from the enemy as riflemen and sit there trying to get kills only.

Keep tracers, but have it like every X bullet...I don't think the belts irl were 100% tracer rounds.

They aren't tho

Uh... from every machine gun I have ever seen... which is more than I can even count, they are being fed a belt with a tracer every 5th round or so...(M2,240B,249,PKC,DShK, ect) unless the operator manually takes them out.

You think MG gunners are ninjas on the battlefield? or is it more like: when a MG opens up you can hear exactly where its coming from for miles?.. regardless of tracers.

When an mg is going off, it is not easy to make pinpoint shots due to the weapon recoil and amount of dirt/smoke coming out or kicked up by the weapon. Tracers are used to help the gunner shift the fire to the target, and shows his buddies where the enemy is.

Tracers are not used by snipers as they are using a highly accurate weapon with well zero'd optics making it pointless.

I am not the realism gestapo like many others in the discussions (Cough tanks cough cough), I get the game should be fun. But I mean this is based on real weapons and actual combat. So you'd want to stick to some elements of how these things actually work in the game.

Otherwise why dont we put in space ships and orbital bombardment, cuz that would be cool too.

Because that is what reality is like
