It takes a bit of practice to get used to, but I prefer it to normal backstab mechanics.
so you can get it consistently? this problem for me occurs even when im sneaking up on them whilst theyre stationary too, as i would attempt to the same way in dark souls, really doesnt seem to be working properly, can get it almost always against training zone guy but not in the wild...

This one is not parry. It's "backstab" in the face.
I still think it's sort of good that it's a bit unreliable, since the game would be baby easy if you could just backstab everything every time.
wow lol yeah glad its not just me though to be honest, backstabs pretty much became my bread n butter vs tougher mobs in ds, shame too cos theyre satisfying in this game.
hmm i kind of get that to be fair, i think im just realising that i pretty much took it for granted in ds cos it is consistent there especially since i usually am not brave enough to try to go for parries on a lot of attacks too
Not to say there aren't some really janky interactions, I just had a Ceberus dude backstep away and I got a backstab from his belly during that. Lul.
i try not to focus too much on backstabbing enemies. whats more important is learning when they stagger, and combo that into a knockdown or launch attack (R1+square or R1+triangle)
more like 10/90 in my case
I noted this being particularly bad against those giant but scrawny-limbed enemies (both varieties). Unless I catch them unawares I find it essentially impossible to find their backstab spot, I'll maybe find it against 1 in 10 of them. The white knights in the Cathedral were really bad for this too, I can be facing what is obviously their back (taking stance into account) yet am completely unable to get a backstab.
