Bayonets useful?
I've been going from Greatswords to Swords, to Bayonets now, and they seem quite weak.
Are they even useful at all?

you can judge using a partner that uses it, so you can have an idea. i suppose are usefull if you want a more ranged play style or being a support for your companion

I find them quite weak too. I went with a straight sword instead.

They are usefull in ranged builds, and in some specific situations you come across.
Personally i only use a bayonet in specific situations, normally i only run around with a one-handed sword and/or a two-handed sword.

With the buff to Fusillade Rondo they are now at least good at one tricking that gift. (With that said this is pretty much true for every weapon)

Use things like Swift destruction, Bayonet mastery, Ranged impact and Overdrive for example and launch Fusillade Rondo for pretty good damage. Use gift prowess active to launch it really fast.

The good thing is that it's a weapon skill. Which means it will do physical damage which is a really good thing, since it means it will be viable at any time. It also means you do not need any other offensive gift, giving you more slots to give you more utility, defensive options etc. It costs 7 Ichor and has 8 sec cooldown.

You are totally free to choose whichever blood veil you want since Fusillade Rondo is a weapon skill, it doesn't matter what your Light or Dark stats are. So you basically are a caster without blood veil restriction.

Here's a build I slapped together about an hour ago, it's straight forward but I like it. Take full advantage of your blood veils charged drain attack.

it's possible to deal around 20k damages with fusillade rondo when buffed correctly, but it will still get outshined by spears and blades in terms of damages with the same buffs. Fusillade rondo consumes 7 ichor though.

Useful - yes.

Strong in comparison to other main weapon options - no.

As sidearm - one of the most versatile for builds without access to range via spells.

the only thing its useful for is applying debufs. anything you equip to make a bayonet semi useful, will work for virtually every other weapon as well, far better. beyonets do far too low damage, have far too low range for their shot attack, and do far too low damage with said shot attack (not to mention it dosent apply whatever debuf your weapon does currently), to make them at all viable. if i summon someone and they run around with a bayonet, i usually kick them out. theres nothing there gonna do with that bayonet thats gonna be useful.

Looking at the ridiculous amount of garbage talking groups you joined
(Ur terrible pls git gud, trashbuilds, your internet is garbage) i can see why you would kick players for selecting a weapon you deem as weak.

They swing a bit slower than one handed swords, but their range is slightly longer. Their damage is not spectacular, but they do have their ranged attack, which can be useful.

Also, because they are one of the lightest weapon classes, it is not difficult for some classes to get the 'quick' evasion speed for them, further increasing their combat effectiveness.

But, as their shape suggests, they really should be used for ranged attacks first, melee second.

The fact that he summons players means he struggles with the base game so much that he has to kick people who aren't running meta builds to carry him through the content because he is unable to pull his own weight.

I'm at the point where I mostly get summoned but if I do depth or tower stuff I might summon someone for the fun of it. The other player could be a total new player with no clue what he is doing, I wouldn't mind. It wouldn't effect my personal performance. It would be just jolly good coop.
Imagine tryharding and kicking someone because he uses a weak weapon or a bad build.

Bayonets are useful in conjunction with a build focused on offensive gifts. The damage they do is minor, but sometimes when you attack an enemy with one or two gifts they end up with a small sliver of HP left. With the bayonet's shot you can pick them off from afar for only 1 ichor and not have to activate any gift cooldowns. I used to use blood shot for this purpose; it does about twice the damage of a bayonet shot but uses 2 ichor and in some cases is just a wasted gift slot when I could just shoot the enemy twice.

The bayonets with shorter range than the rubelite piercer are kind of useless for this in my opinion though. On the other hand, the Riot Breaker seems to have a higher chance of staggering than ANY weapon if you use the power shot.

Bayonets also let you keep quick movement speed easily, which is good for a spellcaster build.

Bayonetta Overdrive so far have been the beginning of my favorite playstyle. It also makes things easier in a sense, as you don't need to get close and personal so often, and can one shot most mobs.

Before this I had fun with Silver Spellblade and Adrenaline Rush (Spear), as I like light fighters.
But oh gosh...the flexibility of this build... You can mix it with Caster gifts(as they are pretty much the same thing) or with a light Dex weapon.
Just try, the builds in the wiki are a great starting point, but maybe a bit too narrow...I generally like to make hybrids. Then it's up to you to mix and match.
