You can host a private server , but not a dedicated server.

Not in the nearest future. It would take a lot of time to make sure everything works on a dedicated server.

thats the current setup yah. dedicated is kind of moot since it's only 4 players. but it would be nice to detach the progression from one player so a group of 4 players could independantly progress the story

I have to say this is usually one of the biggest fails when a dedicated server and player hosted dedicated servers are overlooked. One of the best things when playing with friends is NOT having to all be on at the same time(Alot of us have busy lives). Its nice to be able to meet up together but also have private passworded server running 24/7 so when we have the time we hop on,when not we can see what others have done and built etc when we get back on. This is a great feature with dedicated servers. Also it allows us to do it our own way(server settings and options). I run The Forest ,7dtd,Rust,Empyrion and others but I will not purchase a game that doesn't give this freedom. The game looks great so I will keep an eye out if you guys ever give out player hosted dedicated server files

We don't have player building in the game, all the chcaracter progress is saved locally. Story progress is saved on the host. If you want a dedicated server then others will just finish the game
when you are absent and you will miss the story.

Game developers continue to make it a very easy decision NOT to give them our money. No dedicated server = no buy.

pretty sure borderlands, dead islands, and dyling light don't have dedicated servers either. it's a story based game with co-op. not a co-op game with a story

Well that's a hard pass then. It's astonishing how many developers are failing to properly implement multiplayer in 2018. This isn't the 90's and the numerous benefits of user-hostable dedicated servers vastly outweigh the initial development hurdles. Thank you for your response to Mothman though, always good to have developer confirmation on the matter.

Sorry for reviving an old thread, but... Are there any plans for hosting dedicated private servers? It's been almost 2 years on this question, so maybe it's in the road map?

p2p is more than enough you guys want way too much from the game
its a story based survival game that you are able to play in coop with friends nothing more nothing less
what do you need dedicated server for ? once played through and gathering everything the most you can do rn is challenge runs or something around that in a fresh run so there is no need for server or building bases that you wouldnt use anyways
