This is an optimization issue and there's sadly nothing we can do on our end. Even I get stutters on my rig when I shouldn't when I can run FFXV, Dragon Quest XI, and Resident Evil 2 Remake perfectly on high settings.
When you report this to the devs in the "Report A Problem" forums then the publisher's support team will just give you the same old copy and pasted response asking you to give them logs and the file you save with dxdiag.
That being said, you can try this mod https://www.nexusmods.com/mytimeatportia/mods/3 and increase the LOD distance so that low detail models aren't being swapped in whenever you move 10 steps away from a workstation. It helped a bit in my case. I do hope you have a good rig like you say, though, or this will make it worse because this mod does affect performance quite a bit depending on your settings.
I've moved the game from a HDD drive over to a SSD drive recently. This helped quite a bit with the stuttering, but some lag spikes are still there and can be reproduced at any time. (like during attacking a monster or scanning the area during mining).
I've had an interesting conversation about this with someone over on reddit lately. He tried replacing some of the newer game files with older versions of said files, and apparently that DID help. Most of the lag was gone, after he replaced a file, that contained information about effects. It is also remarkable, that said file was only 6MB in size back then, but in the new version it is 52MB in size! Something seems off here. :-/
If you have a Nintendo Switch and look at the pre-order page on the eShop the game is 2.3GB in size, about half the size the game was before version 2. Now the folder Portia_Data sports a whopping more than 8GB. That isn't normal. Someone dun goofed.
Have you played the demo version beforehand? That thing runs HORRIBLE compared to the "real" game, so they've already proven that they are quite skilled at improving performance. Just give it some time (and move the game to a SSD drive if you can). :)
Yup no problems opening the handbook.
Would you mind posting your specs? And is your game running on a SSD driver or on a HDD drive? :O
The handbook lag isn't really noticeable on a SSD, but try playing it on a HDD. Opening the handbook takes around 1-2 seconds to load... and then it loads all at once and every soundeffect you caused during that lag (like flipping pages, scrolling between items, etc.) plays at once at full volume. :,D
But it's not just the handbook: Even switching between your items on your hotbar causes lagspikes. And if you're using a controller, your inventory is a nightmare as well: Selecting items feels laggy and sluggish, because every tiny 3D model that shows up if you select an item causes lags while being loaded in as well.
It almost feels like they forgot to compress the textures before implementing them into the game. This would explain why the game has become so much bigger.. It would also explain, why it runs so much better on a SSD drive: A SSD drive is able to load in this giant textures in time, but a slower HDD drive isn't capable of doing that, so the game lags during loading times... I'm not a developer myself, but those are my thoughts on the topic. :)
It's more than a second on HDDs, though.
Ah, now that's a ton more lag than I ever experienced, even when playing on a HDD. My lags were usually just a short stutter (Unless opening the handbook for the first time during a play session, then it would be a second) and on the SSD much shorter.
I saw your specs in another thread and mine are very similar, just that I have more VRAM than RAM (The 16GB model was a bit too expensive for me...)
I have a ASUS ROG GL502VM with GTX 1060 6GB VRAM with a i7 6700HQ 8GB RAM @2.60GHz by default (Overclocked to 3.25GHz)
It surprises me that your lags are longer than mine.
