Can't Trigger "Mint Condition" (Mint's confession quest)
I have tried to give Mint a heart knot every day for almost 3 weeks now. He always responds that he doesn't know what it is and then continues what he was doing (napping/walking through town). The wiki claims he's supposed to run off and then you can start the Mint Condition quest with Gale the next day but I have not seen any running or any quest markers with Gale.

By googling I have seen a few other people report this issue but the only response they get is to keep giving him Heart Knots until the quest triggers. But I've been trying for weeks already... If this is intentional it should be changed, nobody wants to waste weeks just to trigger a single quest.

Is there some other requirement I am missing, is it meant to work like this or is it a bug?

Relevant info:
  • I am running Final Version 2.0.133995
  • Mint is at BFF status
  • I have the Matchmaker social skill at maximum
  • I have finished all Mint's friendship quests
  • I am dating numerous other people, and have successfully given heart knots to others during this time (anyone else with a high relationship always accepts on the first try)
  • I've finished the main story.

Awful, I know, but backup your latest save file and try breaking up with everyone else in a single day or two and then try with Mint again. If he still doesn't accept your heartknot after a week, it's save to say there's either a bug or something else going on.

Do you by any chance have the multiple romances/marriage mod installed? I remember it breaking Mint back in v1 and I had to marry someone first to get him to accept my heartknot but his quest still wouldn't trigger.

Thank you, you were right, breaking up with people worked. First I broke up with Dr. Xu, Gust, Ginger, Mei, Remington, Sam, Lucy, Nora, Phyllis and Albert. At that point I ran out of withered branches (was still dating Arlo and Emily) so I went over to Mint and tried giving him a Heart Knot. Again it didn't work.

The next day I bought more withered branches and broke up with Arlo and Emily, and then went to give Mint a Heart Knot. This time it worked, I got an extended dialogue and he ran off at the end. So, apparently it is dating other people (or certain other people) that prevents the quest triggering. I was under the impression from what others had said that dating multiple people had no effect on quests or ability to date others.

And no, I haven't installed any mods at all.

I always knew that Xu doesn't date you if you date someone else, so that adds Mint to the list as well.
