Hazy/low-contrast visuals rendering
Hello, my game is very hazy and strange. While inside my house in the game, the graphics are fine, colors are nicely saturated and the contrast is good. However, as soon as I step outside, the game looks terrible and it's hard to identify objects due to the lack of contrast. Objects and shades that should be black, are more like a light gray, and objects that should be close to white are grey-ish too. Meanwhile, the UI looks fine.

Two UX issues here:

1st in terms of accessibility: the game makes it really hard for anyone with visual disabilities to see well and enjoy the environments. Even playing far from the TV, I see myself forced into getting too close.

2nd is just aesthetic: it simply looks bad and that's unpleasant. I know a lot of effort was put into creating these nice landscapes, but this shader bug is negating all of that value.

Please get an experienced visual designer with a good understanding of color theory to do some QA and help the dev team fix this asap.

Thanks

Hi Mala Man,

Thank you for leaving your feedback. We’ll be sure to make this available to the team for consideration.

As for the contrast can you please show us a screenshot of the issue that you're experiencing outside your house?

Thank you for your continued support.

Sure thing, here it is. It looks like there is a blue overlay on top of the game, and the contrast is just wrong... https://imgur.com/a/rZR7Xsq

Hi Mala Man,

Thanks for getting back in touch with us and sharing the screenshot.

I'm sorry, but I can't see here anything unusual in the colors as the picture has been taken late at night. At this hour, the visibility will be always lower than during the day. Have you tried to change the contrast or brightness settings via the game Options?

Hi, thanks for getting back. The picture was taken as soon as these roof lights went on (8pm on the game), but no need to discuss the semantics of "late-night"... The same haziness happens during the day.

It's almost as like this decision to have a "filter" was deliberate. Please see the following picture showing the histograms (and clearly showing the problem):

Anyway, I've solved the issue through 3rd party mods. Apparently a lot of other players could also see what was unusual.

I'll put the links here in case someone else with this issue happens to find this post.

Here are some mods that solved the problem for me:

Posts also discussing how big of an issue this is:

Even though my specific case is solved (by mods), I'd recommend that you escalate and forward this general discussion with the team responsible for the visuals on the game, so they can improve it moving forward for players using vanilla.

Thanks

Thanks for sharing this mod. This was bothering me as well and have to constantly change brightess on cloudy days. Really annoying when I open the inventory and almost get blinded.

Glad to see I'm not the only one suffering from wonky coloring.
Here[i.imgur.com] is how my house looks. My character, looks odd, and the house has this foggy look to it, like everything is washed out. My saturation is at default 50, brightness at 1 (here[i.imgur.com] it is at .70, not much difference).

Here[i.imgur.com] is my character on the load select screen for comparison. You can actually see my tattoos and its red tint, but it all still looks washed out to me

If i put the saturation up, it helps a bit, but then the night becomes a dark blue-ish mess, that makes it difficult to see, similar to OP
