Can someone explain the Autumn Festival?

Alright, So the mayor is asking me to present one raw food item.. I'm year 1 first autumn on my second game file. I played deep into the game before most of the festivals happened. Is this where I donate the giant seed item that I did? Or do I deposit something else like a king/emperor fish? As I love to fish and frequently get these items. I got a 'Collosal' bamboo fruit.. But I also have an emperor wise fish from what I've seen looking around that gives you a signifigant amount of points versus my colossal fruit? Would I be better off donating the fish I have?

The harvest pile just eats your items; no point in donating anything special. I have no idea where you even got a giant fruit from (the only one I've seen was the one that Emily grew), but that's probably meant for the harvest competition.

I grew it from the seed that I got from emily! So it's a giant fruit it says 'Collossal' when I look at it

I just did that and showed up with an aroma apple. lol maybe next year! That link is helpful didn't even think to look up a wiki on it.

Ok the harvest festival has three parts:

1) Food donation pile - add some vegetables fruits or fish to get a few points.

2) Biggest Vegetable contest - You need to prepare very early months ahead to have a chance at winning. Buy the mysterious giant seed from the merchant who comes to Portia the last two days of any month. Plant it in a big planter from the church and fertilize it a lot - either every day or constantly with an irrigation system (also sold by the church). The seed needs 1 month to grow if it is a vegetable. If it is an apple tree, it needs over 3 months to bear the first fruits, so it can't be entered in the 1st years contest. However the giant seed always grows no maztter which season it is.
On the day of the harvest festival bring the harvested veggie to the podests and put it onto the free one. You can check all the weights by clicking on everyones podest. Heaviest item wins.

3) Cooking contest - Find the sparkling pan at the tables and press -E- to start. You have to cook 3 random dishes. Pick only the neccessary ones from the ingredients that are offered else you get a failed dish.
After cooking you can eat the dishes everyone has cooked from the tables they are displayed on.

Once the festival is over mayor Gale will send you your prizes with the mail.

The huge fruits are growing from the special seeds offered by the travelling merchant. You get one or so from emily. Use these to win the festival.
