Fire Powered Generator ?

do people use Fire Powered Generator ?

i don't get it, what is it for ?

say i have 2 CIVIL FURNACE which is powered by wood,
why would i need a Fire Powered Generator ? it can only power 2 furnace ?

i have not built it yet i just don't know if i should.

A fire powered generator can support 2 machines at a time, instead of each machine fueling only itself. It can also power machines that require power stones to function by using just wood. Besides that, it can use any wood and/or power stones as a power source, and can hold over 8 days worth of power. This all results in greater flexibility in what power-producing materials you wish to use, greater efficiency in power generation, and far less frequent fuel refilling.

It runs lot longer on a filling of fuel then the machines themselves and you can power it with other materials. Also it can power machines that take power stones.

When it is fully fueled it will last like 8 days before you have to refuel it again. It is much more fuel efficient then just filling the furnaces.

thanks guys. if that is the case then i can see it be useful to remove the burden of having to refuel each furnace. however, i wish they at least made it 3 furnace. 2 seems like its going to be a space nightmare to have 1 generator for every 2 furnace.

I have honestly never used them. You need the conductive flooring for them to work, and I just find that a waste of resources. Ack can do it for you, or, better yet, when you get to upgrade to never having to deal with machines again.

I do like the flooring and tend to use it later in the game to decorate my yard. I like to use the two different conductive flooring, mixed with the marble from A&G to make some lovely spaces. I'm playing around with different yard landscaping in each game I do.

Once the generator became available, I rearranged all my main machines to be close together and attached to generators -- fewer generators than nachines, though, since not everything needs to run all the time.

All this became useless when the factory showed up, though. You can still see some of my floor boards -- I repurposed them to be a walkway from the gate to the house.
The generators are probably stuffed away in a chest, unless they were needed for a commission.

I got tired of grinding for wood to run my furnaces. Even with regular deliveries from the tree farm, with how much carbon steel is needed, I was always running short on wood and had to spend a decent chunk of the day deforesting Portia. Rather than dealing with the bottleneck on wood, I can make my furnaces all run on power stones, which I have more than plenty of.

One thing that helps with wood is that you can trade stone for wood (and wood for stone) at A&G at 1:1. I find I’m constantly building up full stacks of stone as a byproduct of other stuff.

this... i just realized this literally 3 days ago. i was like what the heck. im sitting on 6 stacks of stones from mining and searching for artifacts and was worried i didn't have time to chop some trees and here it offers me 1 stone for 1 wood at 999 max per day ? awesome !

If/when I ever do a second playthrough on this game I’ll try to remember this. Thanks a lot. This will definitely help early game.

Late game, once you get wood and mining deliveries each day it’s not as major but for early game I remember being out of wood constantly.

I'm around midgame and I'm using this to power the two machines I have that would require the condensed power cubes. I don't want to keep going and trading power shards for the cores at the research center, so it's much easier for me to just feed wood into the burner and use that to power them instead.

And I'm so glad I can finally make steel plates without making the freaking bars first.... I still have three burners dedicated to bars and charcoal because I need so many more of them anyway. I go through a lot of wood each day, but deliveries from the wood farm and trees around my base keep me stocked.

Hell, I sell them by the hundreds later because I don't need them. I have my factory powered for YEARS.
