There is a large storage you get can that is not accesible by helpers. The Safety Box, it is a Museum reward for donoting items.
The safety box is an option, but it's way harder to do than the Helper's Box and you get it later. So what are you supposed to do, just live on small box in the meantime? Gameplaywise it does not make much sense, hence my post.
And yes, the title says it, so, ok, still, it does not change the fact that the all storage thing is not very clever in its conception.
You live with Metal Storage boxes until you get access to the Safety Boxes.
Plus, also as I was saying, making safety box should be more accessible than making helper's box...
I really don't want to see game progression tossed away so we can store more stuff in a chest or because we trigger over having to use 2 small boxes until we put the work and effort in to get big boxes to load full of safety net and way, way too much iron ore and stone.
Doing this would remove tracking down the Mystery Man to get my metal boxes "early". It would take away the need to do some commissions and progress past having Ack accessibility where storage is concerned. It removes the need to consider just how much is too much.
That's meaningful game experience, legit strategy (in a game with precious little of it) and progression removed to placate one less click and more stuff in a box that will sit there and gather electron dust for most part.
Having to sort and organize are core game processes, part and parcel of the point of the game. Being able to be flexible, dealing with resources both finite and infinite is a major part of game play. How and where and what you store is one of the reasons you play the game in the first place. Have to say I'm not so ready to toss all that away for boom...EZ bigger box.
I'd much rather see them use time and energy to expand the number of slots I see on the screen. There's an acre of unused real estate where items could be but no, I have to turn pages and click buttons because we couldn't make the UI bigger. I'd find that infinitely more useful, flexible and time saving than deeper pockets to lose my lint in.
As always, no offense intended and YMMV.
Cheers..!
I'm not saying to remove the smaller boxes nor to give huge boxes from the get go. I'm just saying, giving "big boxes" in terms of helper box does not make sense. Heck, if I follow your quite argumented point, I could say that it does not make sense that making boxes for helpers is "that easy". My point here would be that helper's and safety box should be swapped both in terms of materials and accessibility.
As for it "making no sense"... The bigger box is to give helpers more flexibility and allow them to carry a large workload to free up the player to go pursue more interesting themes.
When you get deeper into the game there is a metric ton of things to be done in your yard. Without a metric ton of storage capacity your helpers would be less effective in their ability to help you get all of it done.
TBH, I don't think the helper box needs to be that big, but when erring it's always better to err on the side of caution and allow for more room instead of less when it comes to putting things away.
There is no reason to limit the helper's ability to help you. The big box allows you to use/abuse your help as you see fit.
There is however reason to have the player work to progress.
Considering you can build your way into the big box from the museum with your craft table (and a little digging if you're so inclined), I don't find the bar to get them to be set very high at all. It's not like the big box is inaccessible or requires a Herculean effort to attain.
If anything, they should be a little harder to get....but that isn't the spirit of Portia. It makes you work, but not very hard. It's like the no penalty for staying up till 3 AM. The Devs opted to go the fun route, not the punish the player for every stupid little thing route.
The boxes are not that hard to get. They reward the player for doing the work without making that work come too late in the game to make the item useless. I find that to be a good thing...
Cheers..!
I just think both boxes should have the same accessibility, I really don't get why you would get the big box for helpers before the big boxes for yourself is all.
I don't think the dev will change much at this point, but if I'm the only one bothered by it, I guess, they're right to do so.
End of discussion I guess.
Simple, you can get married pretty quick and some of them will help out around the workshop so they made the helper box available early game.
