My Time at Portia: Better graphics, better characters, better fishing, crafting. But i will continue Stardew Valley one day when i have the chance/motivation. Both sure are great games, but Portia is easier to get into.

I like both games quite a bit. I think stardew is a bit more relaxing because when playing portia I felt like I had to get a job everyday. In stardew you can automate farming pretty early so you have a lot of down time to do other things. I also am fond of the super nintendo style graphics.

The fishing in stardew can be frustrating at first but you get so it is pretty easy except for the unique fish.

I would absolutely recommend playing both. You might also want to check out graveyard keeper which is a lot more bare bones but still fun

I love both games, what's "better" really depends on what you are looking for.

Stardew Valley is more farming/ranching focused

My Time at Portia is more crafting/building focused

My Time at Portia is better in my opinion. It has a nice story, a good amount of stuff to do, and decent characters.

I wouldn't really say a direct comparison is viable. They're in a similar genre, but different branches of it.

Just play both, Portia is more "animal crossing + valley" to me, it's still super fun and addictive. I wouldn't compare them tho.

I would suggest putting this same question in the Stardew Valleys discussions tab to get even more input.

Just don't dare ever question the mod's decision there. Apparently they don't answer to anyone and will target anyone that doesn't kiss their a**.

Portia is better in every way that matters to me. Not that I think Stardew is bad. This one just pushes my buttons more. Can't wait til My Time at Rocksand Sandrock is out.

I like both. Stardew valley is basically the passion project of one guy who wanted to make a better Harvest Moon game.
MTAP borrows heavily from Stardew valley, offers 3d graphics and a few more systems.

If you want to be more industry focussed and given a storyline that is fed to you as you play the game play MTAP.
If you want a farming focussed game where most of the story is optional and based on relationship unlocks or building certain (optional but highly recommended things) then Stardew Valley is a good game.

Stardew has a nostalgic feeling that MTAP can't beat in my opinion. MTAP adds more because it was created by a developer team heavily inspired by Stardew valley.

Since you've already bought MTAP I would recommend that you get stardew if it's on sale, or if EGS offer it for free at some point. Both have their ups and downs.

Personally I prefer Stardew, but maybe that's just me liking the nostalgic feel of the game. Stardew Valley also penalizes you for running out of stamina or not getting to bed on time. This is either a good thing or a bad thing depending on how you like games. Personally I feel that a bedtime in MTAP is pointless as passing out just puts you back in your bed for free with no loss of next day stamina. I find that to be less immersive.

One thing I would also say is that Stardew Valley's developer/s have a much better attitude towards bugfixes. I've never encountered any in Stardew with 2 playthroughs. With MTAP I've had an item vanish on me and my mouse cursor also disappear within <1 ingame month. The mouse cursor bug seems to be an old one dating back roughly 4 years. It's been brought up repeatedly and I've experienced it.
The only current bugs in stardew seem to revolve around item duplication, which isn't a huge issue as it's non-competitive.

Oh you can also play multiplayer in Stardew. MTAP is strictly singleplayer. I think. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Both are great but I don’t think it’s a good idea to compare them. They are not the same type of game except in a surface level way.

Stardew is a game wherein farming is your bread and butter. It’s the primary thing you’re supposed to do and the way you get money.

Portia you are a builder who is contracted to work on various projects for the citizens of the town. Fulfilling these commissions is your primary source of income. Doing story missions can also radically change the town and its surroundings by adding things like new decor, bridges, fast travel systems, etc.

There is some basic farming in this game but it’s not really profitable and there aren’t many crop types. It will not really be something you do a lot of except for specific uncommonly used ingredients.

Portia also has a more direct story with more events compared to Stardew.

Both are good games. There are similarities, and there are differences.

Both offer the chance to participate in a small town community and to try to help improve it. One focuses more on farming, the other on building.

I wouldn't say either is "better".
