lmao, stardew valley keep poping new updates for free, no man sky, warframe?
try a better excuse lol
My question is: Has the devs just forgotten about MTaP or will there be new stuff coming?
No more content updates are planned:
Thank you for replying! Is there a more specific answer though? "Further down the road" can be a long time, and I seriously enjoy this game so, so much I'm afraid it will be forgotten if it's too far down the road. You know?
Maybe try looking up the phrase "in general". The fact that you can find exceptions doesn't make the statement you quoted false. The point is still true, it is rare for a game developer to continue providing free updates for an extended period for a game that does not provide continuing returns after its initial sale.
I doubt even developers know at this point. Sandrock storyline and dialogue isn't even finished at this point so it's not even certain if there will be character stories needing rounding out and by the time Sandrock is complete (when that is depend on how successful it's in the first place) things may have changed and making further changes to Portia may no longer be feasible or appropriate.
Even if they do end up revisiting Portia it'll probably be 2023 already and all they're going to do is tie up stories and events between the games (basically making sure character dialog and newspaper articles in Portia correctly refer to events in Sandrock).
That's why I said no more content updates are planned for Portia.
What character stories are unfinished exactly? Only one I'm aware of is Aadit who's disappearance is by design and who, I suspect, we'll see in future My Time At games.
As for the player character, you'll be playing different one in each game.
I haven't played all the way through the game yet, but as far as I have read on forums etc. it feels for more ppl than just me that it's minor plot holes for characters like Ginger.
Again thanks for replying. I got the answers I was looking for.
Only problem about Ginger's story I'm aware was that originally her condition was untreatable and she would inevitably succumb to her disease (though it would take something like 5 ingame years to actually happen so only few people would ever reach that point). After public outcry the developers introduced treatment that allows player to keep her alive as long as they keep treating her regularly. This isn't a plot hole though. That's how Ginger was designed to be. It's just that lot of people did not like the design or the fact that she was based on real life relative of a developer.
Do be mindful of the dates any comment or review was posted. Ton of stuff was concluded over the last year so reviews/comments from 2019 or earlier may not reflect the state of the final product (final content patch was released in October, 2020). Also do note that consoles are far behind patches so any comments on state of console versions does not reflect the state the PC version is on (console versions will hopefully be finally patched to same level as PC this summer).

Some things are meant to be left a bit open right now, Aadit being one of them.
With such questionable statements I am glad for not grabbing MtaP a while back. Currently games get pushed out in an unfinished state and to DESIGN them unfinished or with lose ends is a really dev move.
The game has a lot of charme and nice characters (seeing from the demo) but when I see the threads about "empty end game", story ending is just meh or character arcs that are just not there, I wonder what the developers hope to achieve with that.
Ofcourse, you could argue "well with Sandrock on the way we will have game over-arching storys and people that want to know them have to buy the new game". But then again, what guaranty do we player have that you not pull the same thing again with Sandrock (which was first designed to be an addon not a stand-alone game, but thats harder to sell, right)?
In my opinion this is even worse than the early access plague, that hunts steam. In early access games you at least have the vague chance/idea that the game will be come to a finish one day or another (and we all know some games will never leave EA status) but on a "release version" game that still feels empty at the end or with uncomplete stories the fans could wait forever without any conclusion.
I still had My Time at Portia on the wishlist to check on its progress every now and then but with that development decisions I have to, sadly, say I will remove it forever and make a big circle around future project of "Pathea Games" if thats how you want to design story games.
Intentionally leaving things open.... really guys, really?
