Post Friend-Ship: Townsfolk Are Insulting (Minor Spoiler)
I was very interested to hear from the various townsfolk in Portia who reflected on how our character has changed and helped out. But some of the things they say are, well, off-putting...

Gale: “The Friend-ship is a hit! I must say, you really have become quite the
builder. It seems like only yesterday you were rummaging around in the
dirt, picking up sticks and stones. I er, wanted to help out but... you just
seemed so determined! I didn't want to interrupt your process."

Gee, thanks for reminding me that when I came here I basically had to start from the Stone Age because no one was considerate enough to toss me a proper hatchet.

Sam: “Killer ship! But... I guess you're an expert builder now, huh? So it was
pretty easy for you, I bet! Haha! I remember when me and the Corps all
thought you were a weenie who shouldn't be allowed into the Hazardous
Ruins. You've come a long way!”

Yah... totally remember that time everyone thought I was a weenie. Oh yes, the memories!

Antoine: “Who would've thought you would've accomplished so much after you
moved to Portia! ... To be honest, I thought you were a bit of a wimp when we
first met. But you sure showed me!”

Really Antoine.... really? I’ll remember that if I ever start a new game. Jerk....

Tody: “I'm fine with your ship for now, but if it disrupts the ecosystem in any way,
it's ignite-y nite for your little buddy boat!!”

The fact that Tody is an unrepentant eco-terrorist is why I agreed to help him with his bird problem without any hesitation. No sir, I was not out here trying to butcher those fat, bloodthirsty avian nerds – I’m totaling going to help you with this stupid plan to save them!

I haven't played the new end game stuff yet, but that response from Antoine is hilarious! This from the guy that spends how much time obsessing about the state of his skin?

everyone is general is very unlikeable, this has to the be the first game of this type I don't feel like marrying anyone, they are either uninteresting or boring.

I hope they get better writers for the next game.

Yah, I just don't see a comment like his being taken well in real life. "Hey, you're great. But when you first came around here I thought you were a total wimp." That's just mean. Granted he does spar and start off the game at level 5, but by the time he gives us this little "insight" our character has been through hell-and-back.

The ones I picked stood out for how rude they were. Another one I found off-putting was Emily's because she congratulated our character and Higgins on being able to put aside our rivalry to get stuff done. I just want to say that the whole "rivalry" nonsense was one-sided in that Higgins was just outright rude to our character. Did I win first place for best Workshop every year to spite him? Yes, yes I did. But that's not the same as literally accusing someone of a crime so they will give you a free tool.

On the writing front, certainly do hope they have more investment in the writing and character development for My Time at Sandrock. There are going to be less characters (assuming we don't hit the $600k Kickstart threshold) so it should be easier for the devs to manage.

Heh, I rob Higgins every single morning of whatever bar he has smelted outside his shop. Lots of early game copper and bronze that way. I figure if he is going to be a total asp for no reason I will give him something to be ticked off about.

I suppose then the turn-around would be more of an accomplishment. Seems a bit of an odd exploit - did the developers intentionally leave a way for us to steal from Higgins? You know, beside looting all those chests around town like we're Link from Legend of Zelda.

I think they did it on purpose. Anytime you get close to his area and he is outside he accuses you of stealing, so you may as well. Of course, if he catches you stealing you have to fight him.

i didn't steal from him my first play through, but he was such a total jerk that I did in subsequent ones.
