is it better to go and fish mackeral because of the emporer blade fish or stick with the fishing spot near the waterfall?

Most profitable spot is the waterfall where Pap Bear fishes (it's where the goliaths are), it's close to the house so you can spend a lot more time there than going all the way to the mackeral spot.

I only go to the mackeral spot to stock up on Emporor's for the commisions from Django.

Forgot to add, its best if you have the Master Rod cos it makes the Goliaths a lot earier and quicker to catch.

I will counter Dean on this one, as I ran some tests with a friend. If you spend a whole day fishing, and have a massage chair, you can go to the goliath spot twice and clear a stam bar. HOWEVER, if you're talking about total money earned in a single stam bar, the better spot is the bladefish/mackeral spot northeast of the desert. You'll get more money in a single bar than even the goliath spot.

Mmm, I tried both and found the waterfall more profitable, but at the time I wasn't using a horse so It was taking a while to get to the mackeral spot which seriously dented my time available to fish there. Maybe with a horse it makes a big difference.

Hmm, in my case goliath spot is more profitable for me. Dunno if it's just my luck or not but I got Goliaths more often than mackerels

yeah, I'm stll hoping that they will allow a bridge over that river, so that it will take less time to get to the mackerals than to get to the waterfall. That being said, yeah I think you are lucky with the goliaths, or perhaps unlucky with the mackerals. Assuming that they both spawn at the same rate, the mackeral spot is better because you get twice as much from the bladefish if you DON'T get the rarer spawn, so overall you come out with more. The issue then is travel time and stamina cost. If you actually can do multiple stamina bars then mackerals would be easily the best choice. The less time you have the more appealing the waterfall becomes.

You can get the Master Rod when you donate ALL of each Emperor fishies to the museum

And yes breeding is a thing - though Goliath fish need bug eggs to breed and those you only get from fighting Mr Ladybug - which is quite tedious.

Yeah you can breed fish. I've found it to be a real pain in the butt though persnonally. For a start Goliaths only eat Bug Eggs which is a pain to get as only LadyBugs drop them. Many of the other types are happy with Dough that you can make or get from Sophies farm but those 2 types certainly won't eat it and die if you try.

Second you have to feed them everyday, make sure there is space in the tank for the "baby" and give them just the right amount of food (and that doesn't seem to collate perfectly with the amount of fish in the tank so ii's hard to judge).

I tried starting a fish farm with 4 Large fish Tanks and although I got them to breed on the odd occasion it was few and far bewteen for all the bother involved.

Perhaps if they change it so your helper feeds them and the amount of food needed is consistant then maybe it will be worth it in the future but IMO you are better of just fishing for them at the moment.

Waterfall: $128,905
Desert River: $129,176

As you can see, waterfall and desert river are essentially the same, but the waterfall is much closer.
