All of the people who snooped around game files and all knew about this long ago, to finally see it in game... Oh man.
This is such a sad part of the game... but... A certain someone's voice just ruins it. Seriously, why does he sound so happy go lucky all the time? YOUR WIVE IS DYING.
His voice is the main reason I switched to Chinese voices permanently.
I don't want to say he's a bad voice actor, but the characters he voices in the game just don't fit him because he's fit for a joyful character that's always cheery and cracks jokes at every turn instead, so when he's supposed to be serious or sad... He still sounds like "Aw yeah! Let's do it! Haha!"
Marco (Voice 1) and Mint are pretty much ruined because of the nature of his cheerful voice. I could not take Mint in his A Near Departure mission seriously. He was supposed to sound super sad because he has to leave Portia and break up with Marco/Linda but he just didn't that's why I decided to switch to Chinese and went "Wow, he's totally different in Chinese and he sounds so sad, holy moly". Never switched back since.
*Sigh* But I digress.
Makes me wonder how this all sounds like in Chinese, now... But I don't want you to experience the whole thing again, either.
Agree, I said my farewell to this game. Same here, if I wanted to see people die I will play rimworld and hurl molotovs at them.
It was going to be a long while before I got around to this storyline (for the achievement) and I was curious how it played out.
Based on what we know now, it seems that she succumbs to her illness several years after the player finishes the main storyline, so very few players would reach this storyline at all.
While that timeframe isn't enough time for Ginger to become an old woman, it is enough time for her to have a life with her spouse and start a family. That's not a bad result for a person with a terminal illness. It would have been worse if she'd been hospitalized permanently.
This happens after the main story and a few years later where a lot of people stop and start a new character because there's nothing left to do.
My opinion is controversial and many will disagree, I know, but I don't entirely dislike that they did decide to add it to the game proper after not doing so for a long time, despite it being already mostly done for a while (The files were already in the game and everyone who snooped around knew).
This game does take place in a post apocalyptic world and despite its cutesy look, it deals with some heavy subjects like forced marriage, war, being a refugee, poverty, being orphaned, losing friends and family, and terminal illnesses that you learn about as you interact with the people of Portia. Sure, they didn't really put much effort into properly addressing these topics (except the mayor's family's background story as well as Phyllis'), but they're still there and part of the background stories of all these characters.
The game gives you more than enough hints and missions concerning her illness that Ginger is terminally ill (And she says it multiple times herself), they intentionally made her the hardest character to befriend and marry because of this. But even then, you chose to marry her, even after she lays in bed for a solid week after making you that charm and her condition getting noticeably worse and stops seeing you because she doesn't want to become a burden and make you sad.
Could they have maybe added a method to cure her magically despite the current world not having the means to? Probably and this would make everyone happy. But they chose not to and I respect this decision and I think this makes her as a character that much more valuable as you cherish her a lot more. It's not as sudden as the famous death in a certain Final Fantasy game, the game prepares you and I belileve it does it well.
Would you deny her your love because you know she'll die? Will you stop liking her because you know her death is inevitable? I don't think that's fair. Despite her death, she died happily. She had a happy ending. You, the the new builder, gave her that happy ending.
I am actually tempted to start a new save for that .....
This .. absolutely this ... I think it's frikin BRILLIANT they put this in this game.
