I'd say that most of the things that would be helpful for a bigginner can be found in this list: https://steamcommunity.com/app/666140/discussions/0/1741106440027773440/
And a bunch of other useful stuff in the following posts in that topic, like about the feather duster to pet animals, and the factory, things you'd need to know for later in the game, but are nice to know in advance too.

I'd add one little thing I don't think is there, is to make a bunch of storage boxes as soon as possible, organize the items in them (trees loot in a box, ore in an other, monsters/animals loot, accessories, seeds and harvest, furnitures etc) and then put 2-3 boxes at strategic points in your yard (for ex: one near the entrance, one near your worktable, one inside your house etc) and the others in some corner/in a line out of the way.
You can access any box from any other, and they are now listed alphebethically too, and once you have items in them, each time you come back home after exploring/gathering etc, all you'll have to do is click on one of them and use the "sort all" button to dump things at their place and free space in your active inventory easily.
Organizing the boxes from the beginning will save you a lot of time and energy.

Other than all this, use all the in-game time you have at your disposal: when you don't have enough stamina anymore to do actions (gathering, fighting, fishing etc), and not any easy to found/make food to replainish it anymore, go talk/play with the NPCs, go get some badges at the Round Table, explore to find hidden chests, use that time to decorate...

Hope this helps, have fun!

KainSvendir has the right idea, but here is what I would do.

I would add that tho you may not have a lot of space to begin with, having multiple furnaces will help you right away. Also, make sure you are kicking apple trees. This will give apples that will give extra stamina as needed.

Put items in your house as that will help increase many stats early on.
Make Friends with people as they have benefits that may help you in the long run.

only take commissions if you think you can do it before the deadline. If you are aiming to make people happy, dismissing them can make things difficult. Don't rush if you don't have too.

Fishing will help you make gols early on. This will help if you want to upgrade your bag or tools faster too. (Tip: Upgrade Axe first)
Take on as many non commission quests you can. They aren't usually timed and can benefit you in the long run.

mining every day is a good idea. You can eat at the round table to regain stamina once a day.
break rocks and trees frequently, as you need them quite a bit. You can stay up til 3AM, so use your days wisely!

SAVE EVERYTHING. do not abandon anything. Down the road, you may end up needing it.

Otherwise, enjoy the game! It is a lot of fun!

Another tip is, early game, save some money for when the Mysterious Man comes so you can buy a few Metal Storage boxes, just in case your a ways from being able to make them yourself. The extra storage capacity will help you cut down on how many chests you have to manage.

Other than that, just horde all the things.

do not build the bridge before you have also built 5 dee dee transports.

Actually that's bad advice. As building the bridge unlocks the 2nd mine and access to tool upgrades and does not trigger the DeeDee quest. Do not go into the cave and repair the power until you are have all 5 Dee Dee's and then do the cave quest and hand in on a Thursday. That will insure the Dee Dee's are posted on a Saturday and allow you to grab them all.

Whenever you get a mission, always check if it has a deadline. I just failed one recently because I forgot my own advice and wasn't paying attention. While commerce commissions give you time, some NPC missions will have to be done that day or within a very short time period.

You can also buy metal storage boxes from Paulie's furniture shop, one per day.

I just got this game and have not stopped playing. I wanna thank you all for posting these great tips and throw a couple up myself. First of all, the wiki on fandom.com is extremely useful for understanding the more minute steps in missions, like reporting back to Gale after placing Dee Dee Stops which the mission log does not mention, or where to find specific crafting items in nature, or the progression of building up to a cooking set. Also, learn to read your handbook effectively. When you set up a project in your assembly station the handbook will lay out literally everything that goes into it. Even the ingredients that go into the separate pieces, so you do not have to remember that 2 bars makes 1 pipe or do the math in your head for multiple pieces. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THAT, DEVS!
