A question about fueling the machines
I know the machines that use firewood, the fuel isn't used up when the machine isn't in use. But what about the machines that use power stones? Are they the same, they are only used up when the machine is actually being used?

Also, I have read that you can turn 4 power stones in and get a condensed power stone. Now for the beginning machines, for example the grinder, that take power stones...will it also take a condensed power stone or are the condensed power stones only for the higher level machines?

Power stone fueled machines are just like firewood powered ones. They only use power when being used.

Machines that take power stones only take power stones. Condensed power stones are used for different machines. There's no fuel substitution mechanics. They take what they take.

thanks! Good thing I asked about the condensed before actually turning in regular power stones for one. appreciate the help!

Yeah I wouldnt turn them into condensed unless you absolutely need one. You should get plenty of condensed just through normal play. The item inspection thing on weekends usually gives one as a reward. In addition to ones you normally find in ruins.

yeah I thought I would be doing an inspection this first weekend, but apparently I need to upgrade my workshop some, not sure what all I need to do...or it may be I need more social point or friends....I haven't really interacted with anyone in the town yet. Not really sure what I need to do before I can do the inspections on weekends but at some point I will stumble into what is needed and be able to do them

I think workshop ranking is raised by either total Reputation points from all time or it's based on total number of commissions completed.
If you're doing commissions every weekday, it's literally only a matter of time before you can start doing inspections on the weekends.

The late game machines, the fire generator and factory, consume fuel even when not working (although you can turn off the generator). Although at this point you'll be swimming in power stones so much it won't really matter.

Don't trade small power stones for condensed. You will start getting condensed yourself when you need them.
A single condensed power stone lasts 5 days, and you can get 6 per week simply by doing the inspections on weekends. Not counting all the ones you'll find mining and running dungeons.

Once you get the factory you dont ever need to worry about fueling again, just throw half a stack of hardwood into factory furnace and it will run more then a year.
Until then you need condensed powerstones for comprehensive grinder, comprehensive cutter and electrical furnaces altough I just crafted two fire generators for two grinders and two cutters and was running two electrical furnaces from power stones. You can fuel fire generator for a week with small amount of hardwood and turn them off if you dont use machines.

Thing to note - you will still need industrial furnaces with electrical furnaces since electricals are only used for aluminum. 6 industrial furnaces and 2 electrical furnaces will keep you covered fine.
