Upgrading machine - get rid of lower ones?
So when you start with the the basic...let's say the stone furnace. But then later you can build the upgraded industrial furnace. At that point is there any reason to keep the stone furnace?

I mean I know that the bigger machines use the power stones, but if those aren't really a concern, is there any other reason to keep the stone furnace. Or the skiver, grinder, cutter etc....

If you have mats enough to go full industrial and above there is little to any reason for keeping the stone around. Once you get to a point you can start making generatos and let them run the smelters and so forth.

You'll want to keep the lower ones to do easier items. For example that stone furnace can be used to make charcoal, which your industrial furnace can then use to make carbon steel.

That would take you twice as long if you only kept the better furnace.

cool

you are right Jack, but if I was going to do it, I would replace the stone with the industrial, so 3 stone furnaces would become 3 industrial furnaces, etc. A true replace, not 1 industrial to replace 3 stone. I would have to figure out how many power stones I get when I do the ruins, and make sure that I can keep them all running, but I do get a lot of power stones so it might be workable.

Just be mindful of just plain throwing older machines away, as some lower tier machines are used as a crafting material to make a better machine.
There aren't that many situations where this is the case, but still.

Like Civil Furnace compared to Industrial Furnace.
Industrial Furnace is better, but Civil Furnace can be used later to create the Fire Powered Generator.

There are other times when machines are used to make other machines, but they're usually direct upgrades themselves, like the Industrial Cutter being used to make the Comprehensive Cutter, so you wouldn't be left with the inferior version as a leftover.

Also keep 1 of each of the lower tier machines as future exhibits for the museum.

So far both industrial and civil furnaces use wood (60 and 40, respectively).

A small tip if you don't know - exchange stone for wood at A&G (999 stone per 999 wood a day), and you'll never run out of fuel for your furnaces... or run out of wood at all. It was such a pain installing and fuelling a lot of furnaces before I read about the exchange; farming stone is trivial and wood - not so much. I'm running 20 civil furnaces and 2 industrial furnaces and I never ever have a shortage of wood using the stone -> wood strategy (not to mention, 3 of those civil furnaces are producing charcoal nonstop).

Once you get a decent axe, you can chop trees that give hardwood, and use your Worktable to turn 1 Hardwood into 5 Wood each.
And if you're chopping bigger and higher tier trees they usually give way more hardwood than anything.
Don't need hardwood in such huge amounts often, so turning them into regular wood to fuel stuff helps, too.

If I ever had extra stone lying around I liked turning it into junk like Stone Stools to sell for pocket change, lol.

Well, my main source of income is fishing, so the only two times I crafted stone stools/tables was for a comission and to sit in my yard before I bought the massage chair.

However, if someone doesn't like fishing, keeping stones and converting hardwood into wood are certainly a viable option. (:

I personally enjoy fishing - it's very easy even with the basic rod, and it nets a lot of gols.

This is an awesome tip, thanks!

I only swapped low grade machines with top grade ones after obtaining the factory, low grade ones only take space then.

One thing to also keep in mind is fuel efficiency. This is super important in the early game, as you only have so much stamina to use per day and you don’t want to waste it all to get wood for your machines. Later on when you get the upgrade to power machines via the fire-powered furnace and get consistent deliveries from the Tree Farm, it doesn’t really matter anymore. Just make sure you use your yard space efficiently

Once you buy yourself a Massage Chair even stamina isn't that big an issue anymore. :P

Personally I get most of my wood from the recipe that turns Hardwood to normal wood. I was swimming in Hardwood as the game went on.

I prefer to read a news article or watch a quick YouTube video while waiting for my stamina to refill on the chair, but hey, if you’re popular with the guys, good for you :lunar2019grinningpig:
