Neither pair does either of those things anymore in my game :-/
And I'll agree only if those quests are strictly optional (so there is a chance not to just blatantly fail them, but to choose a way to "set the pair apart" if you don't want them to be together: maybe you don't think that Albert is a good pair for Ginger or you want to keep him\her for yourself). I play lots of visual novels and I don't really like games where NPC have some relationships if your character doesn't choose them (like Dragon Age 3, Iron Bull and Dorian). It makes me sad. We have enough of these things in RL already, duh xD
Devs replied to my bug issue about them not meeting up and told me it was indeed a bug. It probably has to do something with Arlo's quest, as they are not done making it.
I agree should the characters be able to marry other characters ONLY as optional, maybe after you are married. Like for example-- I married Arlo, Nora can't have a marriage quest since he's not eligible to marry. At least not this time. But Albert, Antonie, Remington (I forgot who else) can have quest to marrying their love interest based on how high of your relationship with them and you encounter love rival events just like you see in Harvest Moon (sorry, that's the only game I play).
But the question lead me to this; if you decided to divorce your spouse, would the other characters divorce theirs and be avaliable to wed? XD
Having kids would be interesting though.
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t really mind seeing the NPC characters getting marry after you’ve selected your partner and you’re trying to help them getting together with someone they like. But in my opinion, I feel that’s a bit forceful to do. The only reason why I’d say that is simply due to the feelings being one-sided while the other doesn’t seem to be remotely receptive towards the other person.
For example, Antoine and Xu’s case:
- In the causal talk while play dating, Antoine mentions that he wants to work as a nurse for Xu one day if Phyllis plans to quit.
- Starter daily conversation before raising a friend heart, he mentions that Xu was his favorite his idol that his heart flutters from thinking about the doctor.
- Another of the daily conversation, Antoine talks about Xu being a great doctor for taking care of his patients and helps them get better in no time.
Xu doesn’t talk much about Antoine so it made me feel bad for him since the older man doesn’t say anything that relates their friendship or whatever. So just because they had one event scene happened like Arlo and Nora had, if there’s any, that doesn’t mean that should be an automatic pairing if the feelings aren’t mutual. (Even especially for a single line, that doesn’t explain enough of their relationship - like again, Arlo and Nora - since that recently came out of nowhere.) This is personally how I see it in my own eyes; I rather see a full detailed past and some scenes really did exist, to show support of their background or whatever, than some complete nonsense like how FFXV’s romance pulled up. Just throwing it out there.
I never played Harvest Moon so I'm not really familiar with the system in question. But in MTiP so far we can divorce and re-marry NPC (almost?) infinitely, so I don't really see the point of "rival marriage" being tied to our character's marriage. Theoretically we can marry all the NPC in Portia if we want.
(well, maybe I'm just greedy and I want them all to myself. ALL OF THEM. HAREM ENDING!)
No comment on kids, if people want them, I'm okay with it, though I'll ask devs to make them optional only too. But again, with the divorce-and-marry-another-person system so far I'm not sure how kids will work.
I would also like it if the devs gave each NPC three or so options that way as a friend you could maybe play matchmaker. So maybe Sonia could fall in love with the man of her dreams Musa or maybe she'd fall in love with Aadit or maybe she'd really like Albert. The point is I would like it to be very optional and very driven by the players choices.
