I would like to see the sugar cost on dried apricots removed, and perhaps the stamina gained lowered a little, say down to 20; and even if it took 2 apricots to make 1 lot of dried apricots.
As it is I agree that dried apricots don't feel worth the cost.
I don't know what you mean by apples being far away. They really aren't. There are few apple trees right outside of portia, which you can make a stop to whenever you visit the research center.
Also, every single Dried Apricot you make costs 1 sugar to make. So that Stamina you think your'e saving is costing you money instead. Money which could be spent making better meals.
Luck is a worthless factor in this discussion because you can go into the Wasteland dungeon and stock up on lots of Dried Apple Slices, which saves you even more time. If you are combat specced and decently geared [Which isn't difficult to accomplish] then you can find yourself swimming in Dried Apple Slices.
If you also don't suck and can do well at the fishing competition, you'll get yourself a lot of Stamina recovery food right then and there. I made first place both days and got tons of goodies with the basic fishing rod on both playthroughs. You can use that food to make your Wasteland Dungeon runs even easier.
You need to understand that the point of this thread is to make the Dried Apricots ACTUALLY USEFUL in comparison to the Dried Apple Slices.
When you gain access to Ack you are able to instantly craft recipes this means that dried apples are no longer the best stamina restoration that you have access to.
Dried apricots aren't there to be a rival to dried apples they're a red herring there to distract you away from the fact that you haven't found the actual intended use for apricots yet.
The drill uses lots of stamina but mines quickly, what's the best way to utilise this? lots of stamina restoration. Ever wonder why Sophie's store is the only place that stocks item in stacks of 999?
Stockpiling food...
The poor value of dried apricots is what hints to that you're trying to use apricots wrong, it makes you want to find a better way of using apricots, which there already is...
Show me a recipe that not only requires apricots but you aren't able to use apples or snake berries as a substitute, please. The only thing Apricots really do for you is allow you to turn in Rank A Commerce Guild Commissions that the client is asking for Apricots.
I appreciate your post though. :3
It's a pretty unappealing prospect.
Whereas harvesting 200 apricots is no inconvenience whatsoever once the trees have grown, which is just a matter of planning ahead.
Currently both apples and apricots are quite useful. Increasing the usefulness of apricots at all would risk making apples obsolete so it's not a good idea.
No, I harvest Banner Fish because they make a superior stamina recovery item to both of the items in this discussion. I can catch a good 50-60 of them in a single day, without the Fish Encyclopedia talent.
- Harvesting 200 apricots is no inconvenience if you plan ahead.
I planned ahead in both my first and second playthrough. Moreso in the second. I don't have any more room for Large Planters in either of my games.
Keep in mind that I don't lean on either of the items in this discussion for stamina recovery. I go for the better quality stuff because I can do that with little to no impact on my ability to complete jobs.
I'm just pointing out that there is a balance problem between these two items. There really is, and i'm sorry that you can't see that. I was able to amass over 30 Dried Apple Slices from one day's worth of Wasteland Dungeon runs, which you have to do at one point in the game in order to farm tempered liquid. That's 60 apple's worth of Dried Apple Slices and it doesn't require waiting for them to finish drying on a rack.
- Apricots are the best stamina recovery item to farm late-game.
I just can't agree with this. Spicy fish soup is extremely helpful both early and late game and it's not difficult to make. You just have to visit a fishing spot every once in awhile. You can also pick up Bubblefish at one of the Banner Fish spots which you can cook into a meal which gives you insane amounts of critical strike for 3 minutes.
I realize that it can save a lot of time to make a bunch of Apricot Trees, but that isn't how every playstyle is going to pan out. Since i'm using more space for production equipment, I can have all the parts that I need fully stocked at all times and can make so much money that I can just buy whatever I want at any given time. The only time I go out of my way to make food is to go fishing every once in awhile.
I stand by my original post. The stamina recovery for Dried Apple slices and Dried Apricots need to be switched, then maybe buff the Dried Apples from 24 to 30 or something. Or hell, make them both restore 10 percent stamina and then dried apricots can also restore an additional 1 percent stamina every second for 5 seconds.
Dried Apple Slices are too easy to obtain and restore too much stamina, and something does need to be done about this.
Now, if they were to remove the dried apple slices from the Wasteland Dungeon and instead replace them with Dried Apricots, THEN the rebalance won't be necessary.
