I scoured the museum and nowhere would take them.
Now trying to figure out why my 13 emperor fish are not triggering the master fishing rod.....I am in my 4th in-game day and still not master fishing rod, only a crummy salted fish sword.
Nothing against the sword, but it would have been a better early game reward...my current sword is 200, and the fish sword is a 36 or 38 I believe.
Maybe something drawing your attention to the fish tank early on might be good too.
Like, as soon as you put in the last fish, the letter is already delivered, sitting in your mailbox.
I didn't have any issues getting the aquarium prizes, but I didn't donate any normal or emperor fish. I just skipped that and went straight to collecting and donating the King fish.
What order did you donate?
Also, try making the game "update" your aquarium progress by donating a King Fish, any type should do. Just keep fishing in the same spot until you find one of that spot's king version of the fish.
You will get the rod when giving the kings, like me. You probably won't get the fish tank (but it doesn't really matter, you can buy it at the harbor anyway)
Before I answer your question here is a pro tip for anyone playing this game. If you go to the farm store you can buy a stack of 999 worms. The cost is irrelevant because even the suckiest fish (I'm looking at you cat and salmon) cover the cost of the worms when you sell them. If you need sick cash go catch goliath fish (base value $350) by the waterfall and sell a bunch of them only on days where the markets value is 100-127%.
This is the quickest way to find cash that I have encountered in the game. And as soon as you have a duplicate of a king fish, any king fish you sell is worth $5,000!
Yes king are rare and certain king fish can only be found at certain fishing spots. The average spawn rate is about 2% or less which is why you likely haven't seen them often. A slow and steady approach is needed to catch them. Also, get the best fishing rod you can get.... completing the museums emperor fish collection to acquire the high-end fishing rod is highly recommended if you want to catch the kings easier and seemingly more frequently. Note: in order for you to find all the fish you need you will need to have access to *SPOILERS* the dessert section of the game which is only accessed after completing the construction of the second bridge following the story's main narrative. Hope this helps.
Also, I haven't noticed any difference in the frequency of king fish in the early game.
