Cooking in bulk?

I do kinda like cooking in theory, since it gives a reason to actually grow some crops and maybe some animals, but so far I haven't done much of it. My main foray into it was that quest for 8 fruit tarts and honestly I'm not sure if i did something wrong or if you're meant to have to cook one item at a time even after discovering a recipe?

I really hope it's just my mistake and not the latter, 'cause babysitting the cooking pot is really bothersome. Experimenting for a recipe is fine, but once it's discovered it should be easier to cook a bunch of the dish.

As far as I know, only Ack can cook recipes in bulk.

Once you've befriended Ack and hired him as a helper, you'll only need to make a recipe once. Then Ack can make as many as you need as long as you have the required ingredients in your inventory or storage.

Since the release he also needs an upgrade chip for the cooking (you can also find a few recepy chips for special dishes while mining in the ARs).
For that he needs to be hired as a helper then the topic of upgrading his memory becomes a small quest that sends you to Petra for informations.

He doesn't need data chips to cook. He only needs to be hired as a helper. The recipe chips just expand the number of recipes he "knows," in other words, recipes that he can make WITHOUT you making them yourself first. He can also make any recipe that you've previously made on your own.
