I just beat the Rat King with the Lion's Claws!
Seriously, just go finish all of the Hazardous Ruins routes, get the Lion's Claws from the 4th and final route, go to Wow Industries and just wail on the Rat King with them. The amount of knock back it does gives you enough of a time window to just Kill off the Rat King in one try. I tried beating that boss with an Enhanced Iron Sword and I had a much harder time killing him off. You HAVE to have the knock back on that boss. Now, you NEED to get the Lion's Claws just, just go! Do it now! Get the Lion's Claws, alright? Just do it!

JUST DO IT! FOLLOW YOUR DREAMS AND JUST DO IT!!!

I feel like I'm not going to be strong enough to complete all those if I can't beat the rat king anyhow...

You really don't need to get through all that at Hazardous Ruins. I was able to clear it after one try with barely food at level 20-ish. I also carried an Iron Sword at that time.

Someone already posted it a while ago that the Rat King has a certain mechanic similar to the final bosses from the ruins (they're just the same but the damage they deal and their HP are higher). So if you're used to the dropout boss, you should be able to defeat him. He cleaves and slams repetitively.

If you also take a look at him sometimes when you roll away from him, he prepares his approach skill by moving his right arm like a bull. You need proper timing to roll away from him twice so you won't receive a lot of damage.

I killed him by rerolling my stats with accupuncture and maxing out my attack, defense, health, all the way down to melee weapon 1/1 at level 28. I had to fight the beast with my Enhanced Iron Sword, lots of apple juice, mushrooms, royal honey, and tons of dodging/rolling/jumping and sprinting at the right moments.
Mind you, this was after rage quitting about 15 times in a row, taking two days off IRL and then coming back to discover accupuncture in the nick of time. Though I do hate Phyllis' schedule... She kept leaving the damn clinic right as I was arriving. :/

After lots of time being bad at combat when I started, I noticed that all the enemies have very static patterns. Once you know what windup is for what attack, you can dodge-roll through all of them. Now I run through the sewers to farm valves for water towers, and 99% of the damage I take is deliberately walking through poison.

That and you are invuln when rolling, makes most combat very simple

Yea that's what I was getting at.

Chemical Dropout's pattern is way, way easier to exploit compared to Rat King. And I felt that even after I was able to get through Sewage Plant 4 with stamina to spare (health is much easier to replenish at this point), the rat king gave me a moderately tough time.

Think my baby character at level 24 just used about 300 meat and 70 or so herbal brews to get past the rat king.
Good for you if you can see the attack pattern, I cannot. I haven't met that guy often enough to see it. Hell, I can't even work out the attack pattern of the Chemical Dropout. Always take a lot of damage. Can dodge his shots at a distance, but I never know when he's going to shoot me in the face.
The pig is easy by comparison, for me ....

Chemical dropout is rather quite simple. He's 2 phases

Phase one - get close, if your far away, he shoots, which you can just roll through to avoid the damage, if needed. once close, he does 2 melee attacks. a circular swing, and a "hammer down" attack. After the hammer attack, you can get in at least 3 hits, then run back outta range. if your good with roll, you can land the 4th hi, which is the strongest hit of the combo, after, you have to instantly roll to avoid the swing attack

Phase two- if your right up against him, he shoots a ball at you. get back to just outside his melee range. Next, he will fire a continues spray at you. if you roll directly toward him, you can stand "Inbetween" where the spray is coming from, and the boss, leaving you free to hit him 8-10 times, before he shoots you back away.

But simplest thin about combat in game, is your are invulnerable from hits while rolling, so if your standing in the middle of a big AoE, you can mitagate most of it simply by spamming roll.

You never even have to leave melee range for CD. Once you're in, your endurance regen is exactly enough to just dodge roll through both close range attacks. It's always 3 sword hits, roll, 3 sword hits roll, then he pauses somtimes. It's three sword hits from when he starts swinging again, roll, 3 hits, roll. Once he's below 50% you can dodge roll for the single shot(that somehow still hits you even though you're behind the barrel of the gun...) and if he uses the spray thing you just keep attacking. There's pretty much no reason to be hit unless you mess up the dodge timing.
