The Church
Are we going to be forced to help these people or anything? The whole city seems to revolve around the weird book burning church, will i be penalized for ignoring them and building whatever I want?

No penalties whatsoever. The towns people are peaceful and friendly. The church and reseach center has a few disagreements, but nothing that will affect the player.

Alright, I just find the idea of a church based around destroying information and technology to keep people backwards as being considered good or harmless strange. Was hoping to avoid dealing with them. Glad to hear I can.

Everyone keeps saying there's "no penalty", but in some things you need pigments, which can only be made from flowers found only in the church. But also, there is a quest where you need to speak to the "nun/sister" who bucks the priest and "does the right thing" .. so you DO have to deal with the church .. unless the main quests get done with or without "The Player".

So I have to help out with the book burnings to progress the plot? Unfortunate.

you know the church in this game look a lot like some actual ecological extremist parties.
But imagine if the world is one day almost destroyed by technology, like a skynet stuff and that half your familly dies in the process....i think it is a lot understandable that an ideology banishing technology would rise in the world after that...don't you think?

They don't burn books .... what the ACTUAL .... they have their belief and the scientists have another ... or are you just saying that if a belief is religious it is thus wrong and you want nothing to do with it fictionally?

You buy from them by giving them data disks, containing information from the past, a "book", for the purpose of being destroyed. Destroy old information you dont like, calling it burning books seems fair.

I dont disagree, since we already have people that hate science and the world isnt currently destroyed by robots. I just wanted to avoid dealing with those sort of people if I could, seems I cant, so ill just give them the minimum to progress I suppose.

You do not need to friend them. You do not need to make donations. However, there's a church store that sells some items only availble there. You will need to shop at the store. Most items require data disks to buy and by mid game you will have way too many data disks anyway. A couple items require small chips, and these are not as common. However, you'll want to buy the rainbow flowers anyway. The sissal seeds are not necessary at this stage of game development.
Also there is an item obtained later in the game (no spoilers) which, if you own it will cause the friendship levels of the two church members to drop. So maybe that will make you happy.

Can you build some kind of seed maker eventually or will i need to keep buying seeds from them after an initial purchase?
tevrarain Oct 27, 2018 @ 11:13am
I found that I often harvested seeds as well as the produce, so I don't think you need to go back after the initial purchase. But you do need large planter boxes for a mission in the desert, and as far as I know the church store is the only place to get them.

the "issue" was I wanted to see how little I could deal with that particular faction without preventing me from progressing. Its no different than not wanting to help jojamart in stardew, or not wanting to work for other factions in other games. It seems that group cant be avoided without preventing me from getting a number of required or valuable materials and tools.

Just to clarify - The big planter boxes for the Sand Blocker mission in the desert are not the same planter boxes from the church, you need to build special insulated boxes for the desert. The church planters are just for the tree seeds they sell.

this is true, but in order to build the special planters, you need large planter boxes as a required material, and those can only be obtained from the church.

Can you imagine the discussion board if the developers had organized the NPCs into Liberal and Conservative political parties???
