Just as in real life, only take what you can handle. Making too many commitments will cut into the fun and cause stress. This game is supposed to be fun.
I do suggest however taking all the quests marked with a blue "!" offered by the townspeople as soon as possible - they will only be available for a short timespan and wont show up again after they expire.
I believe the devs mentioned they’re considering making those missable side quests pop up again after some time, but as it is now - you miss it, you lose it for good.
If you really want to get the best possible experience from the game, you kind of need to maximize the productivity of every day - otherwise you’re going to lose to other workshops and miss side quests.
In short, right now you need to rush, but in the future things might be more lax
I guess I just hope with a full release that they can make it feel more relaxed as I understand the concept of competing with the other builders, but don't think it should be so much pressure and stress in a game that seems like it should be more casual.
I passed him about 6 weeks after the start. I'm starting to slow it down in year two though as I want to actually build up my workshop and build relationships a bit.
Fixed it for ya
Just play at your speed and enjoy everything.
It can seem overwhelming because there is so much to do and see and explore, but that doesn't mean it all has to be done in the first week! lol
The game does allow you to play like you want. If you are a completionist or an achievement kind of person, you can be that. If you are into doing things in your own time, you can do that too.
It's good to see what others are doing for tips and tricks, but play your own way with that information.
I play this game to relax and have fun and that's exactly how I play. I still managed to do everything and reach the end of the current content, it just took me longer.
"If you really want to get the best possible experience from the game, you kind of need to maximize the productivity of every day - otherwise you’re going to lose to other workshops and miss side quests."
or
"there is absolutely no need to rush. "
It can't be both as these statements are in direct contradiction to each other. Either you can play at your own pace not missing anything or you need to hurry/focus on playing well or you will mess up and miss things.
At the end of the day it’s a matter of opinion. My reasoning for suggesting you rush is simple - you’re going to miss quests even if you delay the main quest by not building the bridge.
The game assumes you’re getting better as the day goes by - making more gols, upgrading your workshop, finding new materials etc.
The problem with taking your time and not building the bridge to Amber Island is that you’re locking yourself out of all the future materials you will be required to have in order to fulfill time-based side quests the villagers give you.
For example, you can delay the bridge but you’ll fail a quest you’re supposed to receive in the second or third month of the first year because the game assumes you’ve been rushing to collect materials you would have found if you built the bridge.
TL:DR
Rush or take your time, it’s a matter of preference, but delaying the bridge will not stop the game from giving you quests that require materials you won’t have access to.
I wouldn’t brush it off completely, Rose. The developers have stated that they’ll be pacing out quests to give players a more relaxing experience, so if I were you I’d keep an eye on this game and check back in a few months.
Btw, while I personally haven’t seen the devs talk about this, the community has also requested that they make missable quests reappear after some time so that you can still 100% the game.
In other words, come ask how the pacing has changed once there’s another sale going on - you’ll probably get an answer that makes you a lot happier. (The devs are working hard to improve the game everyday so you should see the changes you’d like to see).
