I tried that, but my character was eating it instead of chucking it in. Eventually I got that you can only add food that someone requests...
For me, when I get close to the hotpot, the instructions change and tells me left click puts the food in. (regardless of whether or not someone requested it, I threw in like 50 chili peppers for an achievement)
Were you trying to put fully cooked food in there or something??? I think it only accepts ingredients.
I don't remember my character ever eating the ingredients, but I'll pay more attention next time to be sure.
You get a relation boost if you add Meat when one of them is thinking about it.
Cheers..!
Or you could go for one of the achievements, and just add a ton of chili pepper.
A few items like aroma apples or royal honey can not used for cooking and would be consumed.
Special problems might be items like the salad sauce, which apparently give a stat-boost so it is a 50:50 gamble if they are used or eaten.
