Put both items into the hotbar.
And chose the first one. Stand in front of the cooking set and use the Hotbar item. You loose that cooking item and a timer bar appears over the pot. Quickly change to the next cooking ingredient on the hotbar and use that too before the timer runs out.
now wait till it starts and finishes cooking. You can now collect the meal - if everything went right it is the fish porridge.
For other recepies look at:
http://mytimeatportia.wikia.com/wiki/Cooking_Set
And once Ack lives in town you can fast cook everything you have recepies for, if you have the required ingredients in your inventory.
edit: what worstcase11 posted above, regarding experimenting - I like to make every recipe I can at least once, just to fill out the book, not only for your view, but for another mechanic that comes in later in game
Tried it 3 times now but i the cooking fails and i get trash meal =/
It is easy to double click and add too many ingredients. (Or being too slow and missing one before the timer bar is gone.)
