The "sorting" and storage system in this game could be better - suggestion
Am i the only one that finds the current system not that good?

Oh, i wish it was possible to either just have 1 giant storage place (like the upgraded house has some huge garage type thing that's just empty there)

or..

To have 1 "drop here" chest that then puts everything sorted in other chests.

So far i've wasted so much time trying to put everything in the right chests.

Been playing modded Subnautica? :-P
If you have a good storage system it's not that bad. The biggest issue I have with it is that it takes too long to sort everything out because game time goes so fast. You easily loose an hour or two sorting and putting stuff away from a day of ruin/dungeon diving.

No actually :P Never played that game before.

And yeah that's why, going from 1 chest to another , then you collect all your crafted stuff and you can go ahead and sort it again, you kill a few enemies, same deal, etc gets kinda tiresome

To give you an idea how that particular mod works:
You have chests (lockers in that game but same thing) that you can give name and colour same as here. But you can also assign a short list of items or item groups to each chest. On top of those 'regular' chests you have one 'auto-sort' chest. You put all the items from your inventory in that chest and it automatically puts it in the chests you assigned to those items (or if it hasn't been assigned to a particular chest it gets sent to a chest that hasn't got a specified item list and accepts everything else).

There's also another mod called auto-craft that automatically pulls any items you need for crafting out of chests in your base (yard in our case) so you don't need to run around getting or looking for stuff.

Those 2 mods make inventory management/crafting a breeze in Subnautica.

Terraria had one of my favorite sorting systems. You still had to decide where to put things (though that also gives a lot of freedom how you do it), but the quick stack option would combine anything from your inventory into any equal stacks in chests within a certain radius. They eventually added using items for crafting from any chests open, too, but stacking new items into piles that are already there is where probably 75-90% of the time is spent on in these types of games.

You're not the only one. I have no short-term memory, so every time I have to go through chests trying to find stuff, lol

Maybe at least a lil mouseover that tells you what's in the chests?

I’d love an auto-sort box or something. I also kind of wish that I didn’t have to go and grab everything I want from chests when crafting and that the workbench and stations could pull them from there.

I am hesitant to leave the machine to decide where to put my stuff. I think of the sorting as part of the game. And I really really really really do not like things that I put somewhere not being where I put them. I mean really really really do not like it. Really.

No I mean REALLY.

I didn't like the sorting thing at first, but the more I do it, I'm getting used to it and I like the idea that nothing is being done for me automatically. I 'm beginning to like the realistic nature of at least that part of the game.

yeah being able to craft with stuff not in your inventory would solve everything for me. You could literally just have chests with "crafting stuff" and put in whatever the hell and then 1 with furniture n stuff, would be perfect.

Yes, this game definitely needs quick stack!! Way too time consuming constantly searching for everything in your bag to organize into chests. I really, really hope a quick stack button is in a future update.

Honestly I am leary of too big a change. I find the system as it is now fine. I am fearful that altering it too much in the automation direction will subtract from the gameplay in some minute way and worse case scenario will default to something that will annoy me and cause me to lose enjoyment of the game. If that is understandable.

I would rather it not be messed with too much. Again this is just my opinion. I am in no way telling anybody to stop campaigning for their views.

Edit: Evidently I already responded to this thread earlier. Man my memory is terrible.

My only complaint is that time goes too fast.

I consider organization and sorting part of the game core, I don't want it done for me.

I wouldn't mind being able to assign a major heading or group type to chests though and having everything of that type get dumped into the chest with a single click command though.

Imagine a "Wood" chest. You click the command, all wood related goes in. From there I can sort how I like it or just hit the sort key as we do now. If you don't use the command to assign a group, the chest functions as it does now for any odd things I want to keep where I want them.

Honestly though, the day just goes by too @#$% fast...

Cheers..!
