Pumpkin Pies are also sometimes given out by Mayor Gale after the fireside meetings. If he mentions that people can have pie, go to him immediately after his speech and collect a pie.

This is just bad. With the new patch, people are asking for food, but if you can't make it then why the ♥♥♥♥ is it even a thing now? I have to believe that because now that people are asking for specific foods in this new way (with the red star thing attatched to Chat option) that there has to be new recipes.

Well you can buy pumpkin pie every spring at Sophie's farm, so you can stock up on them then. But if a 'red-star request' absolutely can't be fullfilled at the current time, then just leave it be - after a week two different people will give new requests which might be easier to fullfill.
Really the red-star requests are just good for boosting friendship points a bit faster.
