Stack size should be higher too. Just do what Stardew does and make it 999. Inventory management isn't fun!
the area you get at the start isnt to bad of a space, im more upset about how much the paid exspansion give in terms of space. for the price its a pretty small exspasion.
This. So much this. It is one of the most annoying things in the game so far. And it doesn't help that at least with a controller you can't put the item from the hotbar into the stack in the inventory - when trying that it swaps the stacks of the same item. Only way to merge them is to sort the inventory.
Additionally there should be a button to quickly put things into the inventory or hotbar from the other similar to chest movement.
You can now find it in the shop of the Mysterious Man .
They added new Metal Storage with 30 Slots.. though i do have al ot of storage on my house....
Because they animate you actually building the item, you need the item in your hands to add it to what you are building.
I like the building where you see the item in your hand and havign to be in the right spot to add it.
I agree that chests take up too much room given how small they are. The limited storage space is fine for the lowest tier of storage furniture. However, maybe it's taking up so much space because it's low tier, and we could later get shelves that only take up 2 tiles ; in that case it's just a case of the cumbersome low tier wooden storage having too small a model.
That's an excellent suggestion to improve the interface.
That is one of my major gripes. It annoys me to no end that the game makes multiple stacks instead of putting everything together, then won't let me pick up items because my inventory is supposedly full. In fact it's worse than that: if you swap an item from your hotbar to your inventory, it makes a new stack instead of adding it to the existing one, so the shortcut for that is not useful to clean the inventory.
I should add that I hate the way the game puts items in the hotbar before the inventory when you pick them up. The hotbar is meant for the items you want to use, not all the random crap you pick up. It makes switching between tools and cosumable more annoying than it needs to be, and it can screw you over in battle. When you use the prev/next key (mostly mousewheel) to swap between weapon and recovery items, suddenly getting something in between them can lead you to equip the wrong thing and even consume something you should not have. Or lock you into a very slow attack animation with a tool and leave you open to punishing counters while forcing you to escape stun-lock before you can even try to swap to your weapon again.
I do not believe there is any reason whatsoever to make picked up items default to the hotbar rather than the inventory. At the very least, there should be an option to opt out of this mess.
Actually, there is a key for that, it's R by default. I have to admit it took me a while to discover that because its name is really not intuitive at all. Left click on the item then press R and it'll be moved from your hotbar to your inventory or vice versa. Even when you are out of your inventory, pressing R will send the equipped item to your inventory. It won't combine stacks, though, so if you regularly put away apples to avoid eating them, you'll end up with a dozen stacks of them by the time you're done with your harvest.
However, I think that this key should work on items you are hovering over without requiring you to click them each and every time.
This. So much this. I cannot emphasize this too much. I had been playing for less than 30 minutes when I found myself wondering why this was not available. I have wasted way too much time hunting through my inventory to find what items belonged in that chest (and then clicking them all one by one). The fact that the auto-sort makes no sense doesn't help either.
I think that maybe stack size is part of the balance of the game. After all, storage is an important part of being a craftsman and a merchant, there's a reason storage facilities cost money. However, I agree that inventory management is not fun. Especially not in this game, because the very bad interface makes it much worse.
There are many issues I've been annoyed by, too much to just make a post about it (I am making a file to send to the dev team using the email provided), but take dividing stacks for example. Doing it in the chest doesn't send it to your inventory by default. Why? Why would you ever want to have multiple stacks in your chest? If you're trying to take 4 bronze plates out of your chest, it's because you need to use 4 of them, not because you think they need to take up more of your limited storage space. The options are +/-1 and min/max. You are at 1 by default so why would you need a button to get back there? If that's what you wanted you'd already have it, and at worst you can just press cancel and divide again; essentially there is already a "back to 1" shortcut available. Then "max" is (stack size -1), which divide your stack EXACTLY THE SAME WAY as just taking 1. It is not helpful! Having +/-10 instead of those would be vastly more useful. Alternatively, if you're going to keep 1/max to match the crafting interface, make the default value half of the stack size, that way these buttons will actually have some use.
I have that too, but that doesn't remove the need for an auto-sorter. Having to hunt through your inventory for every logging or quarrying item is annoying. It takes time and focus, you miss things, and it takes way more clicks than needed. It serves no purpose to force players to manually combine and rearrange stacks when they want to sort it, so there is a Sort button, and similarly it makes no sense to force players to manually combine stacks from their inventory to their chest, so there should be a button for that.
There will probably be a lot of new things to craft added to the game as it is developped, including better storage furniture. Also, if you have trouble finding him after you went to get your items for trade, the mysterious man is there all day, he just moves from one plazza to the other.
Or make it like the conductive flooring, but instead of a floor, it's a conveyor belt, and instead of a generator it's one giant storage for materials, so we can access another inventory tab that connects there, that'd be awesome.
I've got every machine that is available by now and all i need is 8 metal chests to store everything i have. The only annoying ones are wood and raw metal, due to the stack size... 999 on raw materials would really help, especially when mining for money you run out of space after ~500 stamina :/
Pro-Tip:
Use your recovery items after you opened the menu, time stands still and you don't need to swap away from your weapon, just smash that button ^.~
