How do you auto fertilizer?

So I bought the auto fertilizer and the mats. Filled it up dropped the mats so they all connect and put my plots on them.

It looks like I had the set-up correct but the darn thing not working as I still need to manully fertilize my plots. Also if you misplace a mat how do you pick it up again to get it into the right spot?

Can someone please explain how this suppose to work as it's the only thing I not been able to make work. My factory more complex then this and yet I got that working just fine.

Make sure there are plates under the fertilizer tank (4 squares) and that all your plots are connected by the plates to the fertilizer tank.
