Is something wrong with this? It reminds me of some of the carnival tricks, where it pretends to be one thing, but is really another..

It seems to jump between being random and skill based. I tested this by using the Poop selection. Instead of hitting it when it appears at the arrows (too hard for me to adjust to), I hit the poop the second it disappears at the bottom edge of the machine. This gets me the fruit muffins quite a bit of the time.

However, RANDOMLY it will give me pickles or the steak or fruit drink. Or the cake. And sometimes I'll randomly get one of the things wrong (my timing isn't that inconsitant, and even if I do it exactly the same way the next time around, I'll get a different result).

Wtf is going on with this? The wiki has little info outside of trying to go for swords is impossible.

I HEAR ya; I do the same ~~ wait for the poopie to "disappear at the bottom edge..." ~~ I get no bananas ~~ sometimes it works. I notice the button I press with my mouse won't press down exactly when I wish it to... weird machine weird poopies... they seem to mock me... are they mocking me?

You can consistently hit 3 of the same pictures by pressing the buttons at a one second interval. But there is no way to determine which picture you get. I assume they slightly change up the speed of the machine per activation, but I have no way of confirming this. That makes the slot machine both skill-based while still having random outcomes.

Yes, I too believe this... I swear the button gets stuck for my character...
