How to hire Ack?

I've gotten him up to Friend level (where the perk is a discount for hiring, so he should be hire-able by now right?) but there is no option to hire him, just talk, gift and leave?

get inside your house and then out. That's what usually trigger events like Hack proposing you to hire him. If it still doesnt trigger, wait for the next days, he might eventually decid himself....

He's been at friend level for over a week though, how long should it take before he comes?

That's weird, maybe you just need to progress trough the story first.... I myself did progress really fast trough the story since it wasnt my first character, I had already made 2 level 50 characters to the end game during the early access so I knew what kind of stuff to stockpile in preparation for upcoming story comissions, maybe that's the reason why I had him immediately offer his services when I reached the friend level....

About how far in the story are you supposed to be? I've beaten the mine boss and is building the tunnel now.

After he got to buddy level I put the Lara statue in the museum, could that be why?

ah ? You dont have a lara statue in your yard ? :o

That 's maybe the cause of your issue... just craft a new one and put it in your yard that will probably fix your problem.

Yeah, as you can see at "usage", it's clearly stated that you need to have the Lara model in your yard to be able to hire Hack....

Ok, I thought that once he got to buddy level you didn't need it anymore, I'll try making a new one then and see if that fixes it.

Yeah you have to complete The Lonely Robot mission before you can hire him.

I completed that months ago, built the Lara statue when he asked, now I've made a second one and put it in my yard and he still won't let me hire him even though it's been weeks of in game time and he's at a higher friend level than the wiki says he needs to be, so not sure what the issue is.

Hmmm. Not sure what the issue is then. That quest should unlock it, since he comes by everyday to gawk at the statue anyway.

After I donated the first statue after he reached buddy level (wiki didn't say you need to keep the statue forever) I made a new Lara statue, but he hasn't been to look at the new one even once, nor the one in the museum that I've noticed. Guess I'll just restart my game :/

Also is there other things going on that might delay his event of proposing his service to you, like a festival or something ?

There's also the option that, since you denied him the access to his Lara model for so long, he's now pouting in a corner and dont care anymore about the Lara model even if there's a new one available (aka he glitched).

Your other option is to get married. Your spouse will help out, doing the things a helper does. Since your Ack issue is happening that is the only other option I have for you.

You donating the "Lara" that is already in the yard is probably the cause of Ack not coming to the workshop anymore. It's probably coded that only the first Lara we put in would be the one that attracts Ack. Just load a safe file before you donate the first Lara to the museum and see if it works.

In my game, after I completed the Lonely Robot quest and Ack gets to the minimum heart requirements, the option to hire immediately pops up.

Have you loaded the data chips in his menu? Put the chips in your back pack and then go up to him and insert them under data, he won't work for you until he knows what to do.
