Newbie has questions :p
Hi guys!
I just started playing My Time at Portia. I already think it is the game I have always dreamed of playing lol <3 but I have some really newbie questions I'd be happy if you guys answered:

1. Is there any way to make the time go a little bit slower? I mean, there are SO many things to do that it really flies x)
2. Will the barbershop be open eventually? I’m not really happy with the hair I chose and it’s always closed so I don’t know if I should create a new character or not. Also, if yes: are there new hair types? It would be amazing to have more options.
3. Can I have pets in this game or just smash the monsters? Some of them are so cute lol
4. How do I know in game if I can marry a character?
5. Can I get all the achievements in a single save file or my decisions will lead to different endings or something like that?
6. If I spar with someone, will my friendship levels with that person go down? That reminds me I really want to spar with that arrogant other builder someday :papyrus:
7. What's that bag icon that sometimes appear on the right of my items bar? I think it means my inventory is full but I don't know for sure

I don’t usually go to forums but I read some of the discussions here and it seems this game has a rather nice player base so I decided to ask lol also sorry if my English isn’t that great. Thanks in advance! :lunar2019grinningpig:

1. Go into game settings and look for time scaling slider.
2. It will open but it requires a quest in-game to complete.
3. You can have up to three pets. Pig, cat, and dog.
4. If they have hearts in their character info sheet or not.
5. Not sure but having a baby is a huge timesink and they don't grow up.
6. No it won't. I don't think.
7. Yes, your inventory is full make some room or buy an expansion through the menu.

  1. Yes, there's actually a Game Speed option in the options menus. You can reduce it down to 50% if you'd like.
Bonus tip: there's no punishment for staying up late. Your character will pass out at 3 am, but you'll still wake up at 7 am, full health and energy, no missing items, no doctor bills. So stay out late and use up all that available time!
  2. There is a quest you can complete to open it up.
  3. There is a cat, and eventually a dog, in town that you can befriend. Interact and give them gifts until they like you enough, and they'll live at your workshop.
  4. When looking at relationships, you'll see your rating with them as stars or hearts. If they are hearts, you can date and marry them.
  5. Not sure (still playing through the game myself), but it feels like it's a "can do all in one run" game.
  6. Nope. The people here love a friendly sparring match. Win or lose, there's no hard feelings, and your relationship actually improves.
  7. Yep, full inventory. Also, note the small green arrows on the side of your inventory screen. You have up to 3 pages of inventory!

to add some things there weren't mentioned already...

3: You can also tame lamas to use for riding.

5: You can do all in 1 run but as far I can think of 2 of them are one chance only: City Transporter & A Fairy Tale Ending. If you miss the right moment you won't be able to get them again.

6: It depends. I also sparred with some which made them loose friendship points. Also the number of the match makes a difference. Some give you more friendship points in the third match than in the first two matches - some do give you less or none at all in the second or third match.

Oh yes, get a stable and llamas asap. They're so much faster than sprinting around. I suggest capturing 2; one to ride, and one to train to be the best it can be.

Sparring with Aadit will make you lose relationship points. He's a pacifist

If you're a completionist, it takes a long time to get all achievements in this game. Most of the missable ones are related to marrying different characters, so technically it can be done in one playthrough. But it would be easier at that point simply to marry the given character, reload an earlier savefile and go for another npc. Divorces are possible but pretty expensive.

Also, there is a missable achievement in the early game, City Transporter, which requires you to build and hand in all 5 Dee-Dee cars yourself. The problem is that Higgins will take these commissions as well, if he gets the chance.

I believe the current best way to get this achievement to build 5 the Dee-Dee cars before you complete the mission called "The Cave on Amber Island". You already have the blueprint, but they require a lot of materials and 5 small engines that you'll have to find in the Abandoned Ruins 1. I believe this mine opens on the 17th day of Spring.

In "The Cave on Amber Island", report back to Gale on a Friday (or Thursday if Friday is a festival day). Higgins doesn't take commissions on holidays or during the weekend. That way you can have all five Dee-Dee commissions for yourself and claim the achievement. Since they're storyline commissions, you can take multiple on the same day, but only one at the time.

Oh my, I'll pay attention to those! I'm still on the quest to repair a bridge so I don't think it happened already. And also woooo, RIDING LLAMAS! That's some quality content xD

I really think I'll go for all achievements in this game so I appreciate all of your tips <3 And it seems like Higgins will be always a pain to deal with, oh my x)

Pffff... Yeah no, I'm not much of a completionist. 5 Dee-Dees is too rich for my building skills.

(3) You'll want to make, if you already haven't, wood boxes to store your materials. You'll need to empty your inventory often. This is how I label some of my boxes: (You will label them your way in time.) "Ore" (without quotation marks) for your stone furnaces (I'd have 4-6 furnaces), "parts" from your grinder (2 grinders) & abandoned ruins, "wood" for saws (2 saws), "textiles" for skiver (2 skivers) & crafts items... etc. Multiple furnaces are a must; Duplicates of others ~~ make as soon as you can. You'll find it a big help to have more than one piece of each machinery in the future. Keep a wood box near your door (with anything you want in it) use it to dump & organize your inventory. Open the box. Hit the sort all button ~~ all your items will fly into their respective boxes. ~~ whether the boxes are inside the house or out. It's a miracle!

Tip: Have the Wiki My Time At Portia open on another computer or your mobile phone if you'd like some help. Examples: Search "gift preferences" (without quotation marks) for all npcs. Search an individual name for their personal information. Also for "cooking recipes" to use with your cooking set.

Have fun in Portia! It's a magical world! Stop by the boards anytime; We all have been in your builder's shoes, and we love to help. The next best thing to playing Portia is to talk about it or help another. The people on this board have helped me in more ways than I can count. I appreciate them more than they know. Now, I feel, I need to give back ~~ not because I have to, but because I want & love to help beginners. ~In friendship, baffling babushka

Actually upon looking through my achievements I actually got this achievement at an earlier time in the game's development! It's probably much harder to complete now.

Nah, it isn't hard at all, as long as you wait to have all the materials for making 5 dee dees before clearing the amber island cave you're good to go. Amber island cave is the trigger now for the Dee Dees, instead of the bridge so you can safely build the bridge now(a good change imo).
Only slightly harder part is getting 5 small engines, but it can be done in abandoned ruins 1, or simply going to hazardous one after day 17.

For extra safety you can clear the cave on a thursday or a friday, then you will have all weekend to make the 5 dee dee commisions because Higgins won't take commisions on weekend. It's what I did, I already had the achievement but don't want to give Higgins any leg up on me :P.

Tips too: for the bridge to eufaula desert you'll need A LOT of carbon steel (and some strengthened glass), about 20ish hardened clay too. I missed out a lot one time so I stock up on that before doing Ack's mission. The bridge mission triggers after helping Ack and get him roams around the town. Check on wiki if you don't wanna miss a single comission!

Hang on, hang on, hang on. You can slow down time?! Dang that would have been nice to know earlier. I just started year 2. Does it actually give you more time to do things or is it a relative thing? Like time is slower but your character moves slower, etc.
