I did notice once that I waited until about 1:30 am and then quit. In that case, it started me on what would have been the same day I actually quit and not the morning before like I was expecting since I hadn't actually slept yet. That was the only time though and now if I happen to want to restart and time wise it is the next day already I'll just close the game without actually shutting it down through menus and just click the X instead. That seems to work.
The only thing I would like is to have multiple slots to choose to save to in case I wanted to go back like a week in time to change something.
When you go into the load menu, you can select a save game can click the "backup" button. AFAIK, that makes the game keep that savegame for longer than usual.
It saves while you sleep. However, wait until you wake up the next morning so that the save has completed before exiting. That way when you come back into the game, you are in your house and ready to head out and start the day.
And, just my opinion but I like the way the game saves.
Good the save function works as I originally thought.
