Half-Life 2: VR Mod

Half-Life 2: VR Mod

I am 7 hours in and this is absolutely astonishing.
I see a lot of complaints, critique and issues, which is fine. I just want to say this is the most fun I think iv'e ever had in vr and is so so so much better than i imagined it would be. there's a tiny bit of very minor jank here and there, i had one soft lock bug i'll report if it hasn't been already but I just want to thank the devs who made this.

It feels better than half the vr games out there and it plays like it was made for vr from the start. I don't think i could ever play hl2 flat after this. This even made the airboat section fun. I never liked it but i was smiling ear to ear playing it in this mod.

Thanks for what you do! And if you're on the fence or haven't installed because you think it's gonna be some jank shoehorned vr like a lot of the vr mods. It ain't. This is half life 2 in vr and plays basically exactly how you would expect if you've played half life alyx.

There is no reason to play any commercially released VR games now that we have PrayDogs unreal injector which lets you easily turn any Unreal Engine game into VR. Id recommend checking out what games you already own that could work with that. Most VR developers gave up on PCVR a few years ago.

Thanks for playing! :winter2019happyyul:

Which section were you talking about that you were soft-locked in? I'll take a look and see if I can make changes to fix that.

Hey so it was the part near the end of the airboat section where there's the little winch/crane that will lift up a ramp to jump the boat over a fence and you drop a washing machine into a pit on the cable connected to the winch. I wasn't sure at first what to do so i put the airboat onto the ramp before i put the washing machine onto the other side (I assumed it was a lift not a ramp.) and the moment I drove the airboat onto it the whole physics set up exploded on both sides of the cable and both ends of the winch started spazzing out and disconnected from their prospective sides. I snapped a pic of it and i'll post it to the bug report thread.

I twasn't a big deal since an auto save was right before it. I don't know if this was a hl2 bug or a vr mod bug.

I could not disagree more. Alongside this the most fun i've had in gaming lately is into the radius, the sequel is in early access and when it's in a better state online co op in the radius is going to be so fun.

I also played through the remake of arizona sunshine with a friend and had an absolute blast. There's the vr metro game and behemoth which both are supposed to be fantastic.

Devs haven't abandoned vr but if people encourage people to not buy dedicated vr games and instead play jank pdeudo-vr like unreal injector instead they absolutely will.

Sounds like a HL2 glitch, but I'd be super curious to see. Yeah if you can post that screenshot either here or in the bug report I'll take a look.

I've played the flat version and never encountered but it's possible. The screenshot didn't turn out as good as i wanted but the part that lifts up the ramp is actually like, inside my airboat and it was flailing around. It looked very funny. Everything was spazzing out and the cage you drop the washer into was totally taken out of the little pit it normally sits in.

Not sure if there's any other way to show images so here's a dropbox link.

one thing that got me alot in play testing on my old quest 2 was weird height values coming from the headset causing what seemed like game issues. there was a few map puzzles and sections that misbehaved because the headset was putting me in the floor causing the game to think my player character was 3ft tall (which meant map triggers wouldnt trigger and some puzzles misbehaved). if you get to the end of levels and it doesnt transition or get to parts where the helicopter doesnt show up on water hazard it could be the same thing. just throwing it out there incase its a factor that contributed to your boat jump puzzle issue, it's affected play testers in the past.

Seriously. I'm not even the worlds biggest hl2 fan but this invigorated the game for me to such a high degree. It is without a doubt the definitive way to experience the game and one of the best games i've ever played. HL2 probably isn't in my top 10 fav games but hl2 vr is for sure in my top 3.

I just beat hl2 ep1 and am at the final battle of hl2 ep2 and it's all perfect.
God i hope the team gets this mod working for black mesa. Apparently most of BM works but you have to no clip through some areas. I really want to play that in VR.

I mean, unless you are interested in the commercial game and want to play it....
comercial games are almost always going to be better then using the praydog UEVR injector (or the unity vr injector or the in development godot vr injector) they 9/10 are going to feel real janky. VR mods like hl2vr stand above the standard injection methods and feel like a true official port. There are the standout games that work really well with injection methods just as more traditional ports can have similar issues ofc but these more traditional ports and official ports are tend to just feel beter to play.

Yes, 100%

This. The game truly felt like a ground up vr experience all the way across the board.

The only time i could ever tell it wasn't was when i had to aim straight up and the gun would flip around horizontally, you could still aim but you can't really use your sights but it was obvious this was a limitation of the mouse aiming which they simply adapted to the vr headset i assume.

It's a tiny issue but remarkably the ONLY issue. This is the gold standard of how to adapt a flat game to vr.

REALLY hoping they give Black Mesa the same treatment.

It sounds like vr controllers positioning error. Aiming using sights worked for me without anything flipping.

REALLY hoping they give Black Mesa the same treatment.
