can i turn off spread/recoil for pistol?
aiming with my wobbly hand through sights fells enough of a challenge already...

its the position, its too accurate via controller and feels uncomfortable while the opposite with half life alyx and pavlov vr, the guns aren't trying to copy your handle of your controller

btw, devs have tweaked the recoil in the testing branch (thanks!). I can't really tell if things have improved, as i'm well past the pistol part of the game.
the recoil is not that bad. if anything the spread needs to be reduced. bullet spread exists to emulate weapon shake and lack of proper posture etc, as well as gameplay balance... but in vr you have that natively. the pistol does grab damage already, why not let people aim a bit better with it?

personally i would much prefer a more accurate pistol. maybe half the spread amount would be good start.

one of the shortcomings of HL2 was that the pistol was only really a starting weapon. it was so pathetic, that it was only ever your last resort, never something you chose to use (it even sounded like plastic). whenever i replay hl2, i usually buff it's damage a tad and make it do more headshot damage vs torso damage (along with the emp7 and stuff) so that it's more satisfying to use by choice.

the way they did the mp7 with heavy recoil/spread single handed but improved from vanilla when 2-handed in hl2vr is excellent.

Don't really have much problems. I can hit combine quite easily even when they are moving.

The main issue with the recoil is it animates very slow, and as a side effect, fast refire makes it hard to see. Lastly, it climbs like a freaking Desert Eagle. Truly, very poor leftovers from Valve that now haunt us in VR. In spite of all that, I still think the 357 is the worst offender; recoils like two Desert Eagles! The refire rate is pathetic. Alas, arcade style balance. Refire is the main problem that prevents modding in tactical stats for the pistols.

I was very excited to be able to use the pistol in VR when I first picked it up, only to immediately notice it felt like ♥♥♥♥. The half life 2 pistol is IMO the best video game pistol ever and making the spread and recoil so bad in VR is a travesty. I should be rewarded for taking time with my shots, instead its worse than the deagle from CS:GO. You should be able to 2-hand it to lower the recoil, and the spread should be tightened all around. If I can consistently spam headshots in the flatscreen version, I should be able to do the same in VR assuming I have a good aim.

That's a hot take. The HL2 pistol is one of the most infamous for being weak inaccurate garbage lmao. Pistols are hard to control compared to rifles, but if you have used one or seen people use them, first shot and good handling between shots, you should be able to bullseye most targets. This includes single-handed with good posture (slightly longer time to recover between shots).

Two-handed weapons like the submachine gun should always be handled with both hands if you want accuracy.

thats actually terrible design, and artificially difficult at best

Personally I'd tone it down considerably, I wasn't a big fan of so much recoil either but once you find other weapons the pistol is rarely used so it wasn't much of a problem.

Currently the Pistol and SMG are the best two guns imo in the game as the other ones do not have hand models and that's immersion RIP to me, I edited the Skill.cfg file to make those two weapons viable the entire game and use them.

I think the pistol needs a two handed grip mode but i really don't agree with this (respectfully) because in VR we have to account for the angle of the gun in a way we don't in flat, where the gun is always level when you're aiming. It would always be harder in VR just because of that extra dimension to aiming. It does feel a little unfair to have that recoil when we cant steady the gun better though

I don't see any issues with the pistol. Aiming down the sights puts your first bullet very accurately and you usually can double-tap without much deviation. Not sure what people are expecting. Less recoil would make the thing feel like a toy.

I agree, also if you get quick enough, you can rest your gun on your knee. This pretty much is like no recoil as it could be I would think. Also some players play seated so shooting from the arm rest hardly seems like it would be fair if some bullets did not go just as planned.

Pistol also needs a two-handed option.
Or Freeman should be recoilless because of the power assist of the HEV suit.

Pulse rifle runs out of ammo after 3 reloads.
The crossbow does not have a laser sight, so it doesn't hit.
I think the pistol is the main weapon in HL2, even at the end of the game.
