Movement too fast
It would be great to have a slider to control movement speed, its really difficult to do fine movements as the control curves on the oculus touch sticks are set up poorly, you're either barely moving or moving too fast, a slider to adjust this would be appreciated.

I crouch when I need to go very slow :)

I have to admit it is fast but if you just use the center and with practice you can tame the speed to what you feel is normal.

I agree, a movement speed slider would be great.

im okay at it but as soon as there's any danger or anything i just end up hitting walls and sticking to stuff as im focussed on fighting back, especially when strafing

Same. It's not that a speed slide is necessary.. they just need to adjust the analog speed to be more balanced. It feels like if you push beyond 30% you go full speed. You need to tilt extremely carefully in order to walk or move slowly.

They can calibrate this range to make sure you only really running full speed when you fully tilt the analog stick forward.. anywhere in between must provide more refined movement speed.

the issue with modifying player speed is the physics engine does not like it and really bugs out.

Improving the movement controls is on the roadmap, but it is unfortunately proving to be quite finicky due to the tight coupling between player movement and game physics. I can't promise any timelines just yet.

good to know thanks for the update

Found this, not tried it yet but might be useful to people here:

Half-Life 2 VR has a default walk speed which some people may find unnaturally fast. This modpack binds two seperate walking speeds to the "alt" (slow walking) and "shift" (running) keys. If you bind words like "walk" and "run" to the "alt" and "shift" keys in the free version of VoiceAttack, you can toggle between walking and running on the fly in VR by simply reciting "walk" or "run" in your headset mic!

Wouldn't hurt for people to limit the movement by the controller somehow. So like 50% of the joystick max. just a thought as I can control the player slowly keeping my finger in the center with very little movement on a Vive wand. I were more concerned not being able to steer the direction of travel by pointing my left hand like in other vr tittles. It's tricky to use the pad to walk on the pipes for example going sideways too far all so easy where I could just point direction and hold forward if it supported this, so much easier.
My problem isn't much with the speed, but the fact that the maintained momentum makes it feel like I'm walking on ice. This game is actually the first thing to ever give me consistent motion sickness in my over 2000 hours of playing VR so I can only really tolerate playing it a little bit at a time, but it is quite an impressive project otherwise and I'm glad to hear that the devs are looking at fixing things up!

yeah i got a bit sick before and had to take a break. it happens in minecraft, too fast movement in all four directions. I guess these older pancake games really had strafing in mind in a way a game like Alyx dosen't

It is wonky. However I did get use to it.

You can find autoexec.cfg in Half-Life 2 VR/hlvr/cfg. Then, add 2 lines.

hl2_normspeed 130
hl2_sprintspeed 220
