Cant seem to pick up and carry/place barrels
I didnt see this topic, if its there then accept my apologies for a duplicate. Game seems to run ok, pretty awesome to see this in VR. Played it a couple dozen times on regular pc back in the day. VR is a new experience for sure. I seem to have an almost impossible time picking up and moving barrels. Exploding ones half the time blow up in my hands. I save before trying to pick one up. Is it this way for everyone or am I missing an update? Other than that I love it. But the barrel thing makes it difficult for me anyway because I use those exploding ones big time, or I used to. Any tips? Im playing on Meta Quest 2 and desktop using virtual desktop.

For barrels exploding on you when trying to carry them, it's not you, its a known quirk/bug of the game. There's particular offender in water hazard when you first enter a sewer to escape a combine chopper, that can pop just looking at it the wrong way.

My understanding is there's a difference between the Flat screen "z" moving, and the object moving the VR players doing, the barrel may be scraping the ground setting it off. (short kings might explode more, ripperoni)

Boxes and certain non exploding barrels shouldn't be difficult to pick up for you, its not normal if you don't find this to be the however, there are some other things that use a different client/serverside(local) handling and it IS normal for them (for everyone) to have wonky weights and physics - like the corpses for example, they tend to seem/feel like they weigh tonnes.

Yes the flat screen game doesnt have this z moving/barrel exploding bug (but it does have plenty that carried over to the vrmod) but please remember that hl2vrmod was in development hell for almost a decade, stuff in the game is implemented in a fragile way and may not be possible to fully fix now days. (fwiw and fyi, the project is now in maintenance mode, meaning no features or enhancements from the core team should be expected, only major breaking issues may be addressed)
