Those levels (akatiti, thinkerer's lab etc.) are beyond a challange, almost impossible to beat for a normal player, but piece of cake on insane(put buff beam, auras, minions, end game gg). Actually hard difficulty and insane seem definitely same except building time limit and rewards. Drops are also terrible on insane.
I am about to stop playing because i can't beat on nightmare and insane is so easy.
The main difference between Insane and Nightmare is that on insane, your minimum stats should be around 150-200 to beat and on NM the absolute minimum is low to mid 1000. Average on NM is around 2k to mid 2k.
Once you start Nightmare, it really starts to come down to perfect placement, and upgrade order making the difference between a loss and a win.
that's what makes it good for it be hard so maps are so easy in nightmare for a pro player
using multiple heroes playing alone is still single player. Single player being an option, however, does not mean that everything in the game is meant to be completeable solo with the same amount of effort as a group of heroes.
I see this problem in the online Final Fantasy games as well, where you can level up multiple classes/jobs. Some people insist on locking themselves to one when the game is designed around the idea of being able to switch to fit the situation. I dont understand why people try to fit the square peg in the round hole and then complain that they can't.
If you are at 2.5k stats with your builders and you are not able to beat Kings Game, Akatiti, then simply put -- you are not that good at the game and you probably got boosted to get to the 2.5k stats mark.
Or you've skipped progression a lot in between by trying end-game maps rather than doing Lost Shards maps which introduce you to a variety of new enemy types and helps you in building in a better and more strategic way.
Tinkerer's Lab is hard with 2k stats, it is doable, but a lot of map awareness and great bit of skill is required for that one, especially if you are doing it alone. Skill is something which I'm beginning to assume you are lacking given your response about NM being hard at 2.5k stats.
I have a guide for Tinkerer's -- http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=153602524
It is old and hasn't been updated, but the build still hold well for 3k stats. So with some effort at 2.5k you should be able to do it. Just requires a bit of practice since the map is fairly huge and requires a bit of getting used-to to mana chest locations, shortcuts, hazards, etc.
You should check the guides to see what maps you can beat at 1k stats, let alone 2.5k. And Akatiti and plenty others do feature in those map lists which you can beat at significantly lower stats.
Nightmare is supposed to be hard, but if you have an idea on how enemies behave(aggro, pathing, attack types etc.) then even NM is easy for most players.
And just having 2.5k stat in attack damage doesn't mean anything really. If you have 2.5k damage but less than 1k hp and sides, then you are doing to face issues with defenses going down.
There are plenty of maps which you can steamroll with 2.5k stats on NMHC. Maybe you should try those before jumping directly on the end-game maps.
This is how in short progression works:
Farm Glitter Insane/NMHC get some good Myths --> Farm Mistymire NMHC get some great Myths and good Trans --> Farm Tavern Defense NMHC get leveled up --> Farm Moraggo get some great trans --> Farm Aquanos get even better Trans and some Supremes --> Once you've reached level 83 and 2.5k stats across including DPS then try the other bonus maps.
All said and done, it requires practice and there is an obvious progression curve between NMHC and Insane. So it takes a bit of getting used to.
And if you're lazy to not farm those maps, well, Lab assault Insane gives good stuff to get your geared up, so there's that.
I'd like to show you how Akatiti is done on even 1-2k stats, but my friend Pew has already done it you can check his video guide here -- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nz37tlv3JE8
And his entire NMHC guide here -- http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=216908696
And his progression guide here -- http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=571937405
Remember -- DD on NMHC requires a lot of things to be mastered with, one of the most important being the ability to quickly build by switching characters in the given time limit.
The game was highly popular prior to Nightmare and the overwhelming majority of those players who stopped playing will tell you they did so when Nightmare (and most of the new DLC that came since) was just too much of a leap from Insane. Often they'll tell you this with no small amount of frustration because to all of these people it was a game they enjoyed a lot before that point.
But I used Controller Emulator so I can have 4 characters active at ones and they all get experience so it goes 3 times faster.
And ofcourse 4x rewards on reward maps is nice to have.
I play solo and solo only, This game is not hard by any means, you just make it harder by limiting yourself to a single character, Either you solo with a 1 man army or you dont play nightmare. (I have about 12 characters when I go or something like that)
E.V = Buff beams/Reflect
E.V = Walls
Summoner = Minions walls (Archers/Mage/Spider)
Monk = Aura monk (Lightning/Strength/Ensare)
Monk = DPS Monk
Huntress = Traps (Explosive/Gas/Fire/Spike)
Jester = Mana/Upgrading
Apprentice = Towers (Fireball/Magic Missile)
Squire = Towers (Harpoons)
Squire = Walls
Barbarian = Boss killer
Jester = Towers
Summoner = AFK while I hit boss and provides cat dmg boost and dps with sea horse
Summoner = AFK While I hit boss and provides dmg with double sea horse
Summoner = AFK While I hit boss and provides dmg with double sea horse
This is my current active list. enjoy.
Its your choice.
Also @Farkylk That's your opinion, the game is rather easy for me because I know what to do and how to play the game.
Once you hit 2k+ its just a cakewalk game from thereon out, 3k? 4k? 5K? 6k? Yeah its just overkill, its just stats for the sake of stats.
Unless you are playing embermount volcano, that map requires some heavy stats.
