"Roguehate" is a ridiculous buzzword
I hope it doesn't catch on

You're right :D

I don't even know what the term means. I just read it on the store page, and can't make sense of it. Can someone explain the term to me? Thanks.

Seems like a gimmicky way of saying "not a roguelike".
Darkness Sep 29, 2017 @ 7:44am
Indeed, it's obvious it should be called Roguedislike. Roguehate would be opposite of Roguelove, and that makes no sense.

Or just don't say it's a roguelike, because then...it's not a roguelike. Although I think the devs are a bit cornered into trying to distinguish this from their Neon Chrome game, and focusing on the hand crafted content vs procedural is one way

We're indeed trying to make it clear how this is different from Neon Chrome as that's what people asked us a lot when we started working on this. But yeah, hand crafted vs random generated levels is one of the big differentiators here. Roguehate is just something we found funny because of the double meaning (JYDGE really hating rogues). We're not exactly marketing geniuses :D

Myself I'd kvetched about the "lawful but awful" (?) phrase. I don't think you should ever use "awful" in the marketing for a game, even as a joke. :steamfacepalm::steamhappy:

Well, yes, that too. Did I already mention our low marketing IQ?

Although we have noticed that people are talking about this stuff, so... that's good versus not talking at all? Maybe?

Have to chime in against that 'awful' in description.
I'm not a native speaker but it really came off as if describing game quality - which is definitely not the intended effect.

I don't get all the fuss about the word 'awful'.
I understood the context when I first read the word, I chuckled and wondered if there was more personality in the game too. :)
May be I am an odd chap and this sort of marketing works on me. Still as 'temper' states, it has people talking together about the game.
I instantly got the context of "awful". The roguehate bit was a bit more opaque but I get it now.

I don't have a problem with "roguehate".

Think about all the real reasons you've got for having a problem with "roguehate" and imagine explaining them to a group of people. Think it through a bit and if you think it's worth hearing, I would love to hear it!

Stating instead that the JYDGES HATE ROGUES would sound more fun and less like a wanna-be genre, but would be way mode indirect so many people wouldn't get it.

As someone with a sense of humor that doesn't feel the need to anal-yze everything, especially not things that are obviously a joke ("hate" is an antonym of "like", it's frikkin' simple people, get over it), I think the game's description is funny. There's no need to change anything about it.

-OutB4 someone tries to argue about semantics.
