I just built a beehive, and then ???
Should I catch more bees and put in?

After you placed the hive, put small planter near it with seeds.
thx, i made it

Put flowers nearby and they'll start making honey. Not sure how many flowers are needed, i have 4 boxes just because i like symmetry and seagulls are going to eat some, so might as well have spares

How did you get the bee jar?

go to a evergreen island and use the bug net to scoop up a hive. you can go back to Balboa to get bees, it's what i did
thank you ,too. my friend

I should add, i have two planters (6 flowers) powering six beehives.

I have just reduced each planter to two flowers (so 4 in total) and am waiting to see if all 6 hives still produce.
Any results from your experiments ?
Yep - they still produced.

I have heard someone claim they can get 3 combs per hive but I have not tried it.

Are you getting less than 3 combs with less flowers? I have lots of flowers and i always get 3 combs. Are you saying that you are getting less combs ? Maybe try waiting a longer to see if with less flowers you fill the hives slower.
I have the absolute minimum of flowers... one planter squashed between two hives. That gives me 4 (2x2) combs per harvest, and requires minimal seagull policing.

I have 4 lots of those set up in a room (so 16 combs per harvest) with two scarecrows outside. so far I have only lost a couple of flowers.

It's already yielded a chest of honey, and about 80 good healing salves so more than happy to sacrifice efficiency for an easier life ;)

So you are having 1 plot with 1 flower surrounded by 2 hives and you have 4 such groupings next to each other in a room. Did i understand you correctly ?

Almost - i have 3 flowers in each planter... but everything else you said is correct :)

I think the key point is the flower, less flowers, less combs

How can u get so much bee jar, i can only find 15 bee jars ,it can only enough for one hives.
Look for green dots to the 'east' or 'west' on the radar and head for those. Many of them will be bear/honey islands - each with two or three honey areas and so 5 or 6 swarms to catch.

each "big island" from balboa type as 2 honey areas each with 2 swarms, so total 4 swarms total per island. That will give you at least 16 bees in a jar(at least 4 per swam + a posibility of bonus ones) which is enough for a bee hive(bee hive needs 15 bees in a jar).
Balboa has 5 honey areas although only 3 of them are big and are home to 2 bee swarms each for a total of 6 swarms for balboa.
For balboa honey areas see this guide.

Based on everything written in this thread and Hysline's(the author of the guide) experiments it can be concluded that:

1 planter = 1 honeycomb. 2 planters = 2 honeycomb. 4 planters = 3 honeycomb.
* for now, hanged planters don't count

A rather interesting and time/area saving solution is to do beehives and planters in a chess pattern, that way every beehive has 4 planters around it and will produce the maximum of 3 honeycombs per 8 minute cycle.

I'm using 4 hanged planters with one hive and can get 3 combs per cycle.
I use one planter per two hives and get 2x2 combs.

I have also got more than 4 swarms on the bear islands (not Balboa)
