Can't find pufferfish
I have only been able to find 1 pufferfish and I've been working on the same world for a while now. I see a lot of people online say they have the yellowish/green moss above them, on top of the water but I haven't seen any of that. Is it still in the game or did they change it and does anyone have any hints of helping to find the puffers?

Ignore the floating moss rumor of the past.

Keep your ' Ears ' open at large island lagoons, could hear ' Bubbly Bursting sounds ',
when close by.

'Only so few common Spots' to see those puffers, really quite hard to miss.

Usually if you swim around the island, underwater, they'll find you. Just keep a good look out. As a matter of fact, keep a lookout in the sky too. After the updates the pufferfish seem to swim out of the water when they hit land and just keep swimming. Had one swing over a large rocky outcrop to get me. Kinda crazy. Might need to put in a bug report come to think of it. Lol

Yeah, the yellowish/green moss is gone in this up-date. As hazardousgamingarcades said, just jump in the water in a shark free zone and wait. The pufferfish will find you. Their tracking abilities put bloodhounds to shame.
Just keep an eye out so they don't sneak up on you. By the time you hear their distinctive bubbly noise it's sometimes a bit too late.

They're only at the Large Islands, which unlock after you do the first quest stuff. You can then hone in on them using the receiver. Each one tends to have at least a few in the water around the island.

Each large island that shows up as a blip on your radar have 3 puffer fish around the island. I've not had a problem finding them when looting the scrap, clay, ore, etc... around a large island.

It will occasionally happen that no puffers will spawn at all. But that's very uncommon.
Try swimming near the drop offs, where the reefs drop sharply into deeper water. They sometimes like to hang out there.
Also check out any underwater arches, tunnels, and caves formed by rocks. They also like those.

Been doing it over two days now. Its rather frustrating. As there is nothing else to do at this point than get that so we can get the explosive stuff for the net catcher.

Can confirm. I only found pufferfish at the one island where there was a clucker. Fortunate coincidence. Doing a lot of diving near big islands (when Bruce lets me) but no joy.

Still never able to find any and spent days looking for them

Probably partly luck. My first encounter was when one sneaked up behind, me, thought it was a shark at first, except kept damaging me for a bit. Make sure you are at a large island, near underwater resource sites. Also seems to be near shore, which works well for my cheap tactics against them. :)

did the pufferfish disappeared when they explode?

Yes, pufferfish disappear after they explode on you.

Pufferfish are only found around the bigger islands (the ones with the big trees you cannot cut down). I usually find 3 or 4 per island, but I've been to an island without any. They also tend to spawn in twos near underwater "junk" usually with a chest nearby. Usually you don't need to go looking for them, if you swim around looking for resources, they'll find you pretty quick. If you let them get too close, they will explode in a cloud of yellow. To kill them swim backwards with a bow and hit them with 3-4 stone arrows. Also, if you're far enough away from your raft, the shark won't bother you.
